Hey, I have a Mach 1 coming in a few months. I live in Wisconsin but luckily I live and work in downtown Milwaukee, so I am not anticipating having to drive the car anytime when it snows or when the roads do not look clear. I still plan to throw some winter tires on the car in case its unavoidable.

That being said, I am still concerned about rust. The dealer that I ordered the car from said that they really do not do rust-poofing anymore but instead recommend this product called "Final Coat." https://finalcoat.com/module/index.html

I looked into this and, I don't know, it has very mixed reviews. Does anyone have any experience with it? If not, would standard rust-proofing from a body shop including the underbelly of the car be the preferred way to go? Many Thanks!

Electronic rust prevention has always been a scam, lol. Literally worthless.

If you want to rust proof the car, spray the underside (especially anything made of stamped steel) with Fluid Film or Krown rust proofing spray. These are both wax based oils that cling to the metal and provide a constant barrier between the metal and moisture. If you don't drive the car when it's wet outside the protection will last all winter easily. Even if you're regularly driving in snow and wet it still generally lasts 6 months. Extremely effective.

The key to rust proofing is to do it from new. In the U.K. where our roads are wet and salted for 4-5 months of the yr there are two schools of thought:
1. new school- raptor pick up bed liner.
2. Traditional- Dinitrol

Dinitrol is known to be very effective as it’s been around for years and many people use it on classic cars, land rovers and un protected Japanese and American imported cars. Too soon to say if the raptor is as effective, but if done from new I have no reason to doubt it will work. Look at the underbody of a Volvo, it’s painted in a raptor like coating.
The spray on films like acf50 are all well and good if you have perfect roads with no debris or stones to pepper the underside exposing bare metal. Our roads in the U.K. are in a terrible condition, not much better than gravel tracks in some areas with massive wheel cracking pot holes, so I wouldn’t risk using acf50 for underbody protection here, but I would in Spain where the tarmac is perfect.

Wax based rustproofing and applicator gun from a body shop supply store. I applied Rust Fre wax over 13 years ago on my F150. Still protected.
