I'm looking to put some jacking rails on my Mustang ahead of doing work on it. I was planning on getting the Steeda low profile ones.

I noticed rust around the bolt holes. Both sides look similar. Aside from this, the underside of my car looks pretty good. Exhaust, exhaust hangers and sway bars show some rust.

Anyone treat this with anything before installing jacking rails?

It appears to just be surface rust so nothing to be too concerned about. Still, you're going to be covering it up.
What I'd do is hit it with a wire wheel and spritz it with some rust resistant primer and call it good.
If you're worried about the other areas you might consider some rust converter.

That's how it starts.
This is the result of the "non-underground conservation" that seems to be the norm in the US.
How long do you plan to keep the car?

I would like to keep my Bullitt a little longer and I also drive it in the northern European winters where salt is sometimes spread, so I have taken care of the underbody properly.

I would do a light sanding to get rust off and clean up the threads.
If you want to use a product this is something I have used before:

You could touch up the paint on the area too.

I'm leaning towards some light sanding and the POR-15 3-step kit.

Any reason I shouldn't use this?

Not worried about the other areas. I'm going to swap out my exhaust and the sway bars in 12-18 months.

I plan to keep the vehicle for a long time. It will not be exposed to winters ever again moving forward. It saw maybe 2 actual winters of daily driving.

I'm only concerned about rust on the main frame, so this being right near the pinch welds is annoying. Had I put jacking rails on sooner, probably never would've happened.

seems like over kill what you posted to use.
@ORRadtech has a simpler solution of a light sand and hit with a primer.
I wouldn't worry about that spot one bit.

I am typically guilty of overkill. Thanks.

I used to be and my family would say I am still that guy too, LOL. I have found these thing rarely matter. The guy that keeps his car in bubble wrap gets rear ended by the drunk.

Hahaha.

No worries, I'm going to drive it. Won't be a full on garage queen. I just have something else to use in the winter now that I love driving too. I want to keep driving the Mustang as long as I can.
