Roush Supercharged Oil Specs

I need to do my first post install oil change on my car with the Roush supercharger. I assumed my dealer used Motorcraft XO-5W50-QGT so I decided to use Motul Sport as I have heard good things about it and they meet the same specs. I just looked at me receipt from the install and see that they didn't use that oil, they used XO-5W50-Q1GT. After some googling I come to learn that's the newer WSS-M2C931-D spec which is API SN Plus (vs QGT/WSS-M2C931-C which is SN). So I decided to look at the Roush install guide to see if they state what oil to use, and sure enough, in bold text, it states SN Plus or SP oil is required. Of course I find this all out after ordering the Motul oil :headbang: I tired searching for the different oils/specs on here but only came up with a handful of unrelated post from a few years ago. Is this common knowledge and I'm just an idiot who somehow missed it?

I use MOTORCRAFT via Rockauto, 5W50 only! I have Roush phase 2 blower on the car since 2k miles, I have 12K currently with no issues.

The Motul is fine. The new specs are for emissions.

Personally I only use oil that meets euro spec A3/B4.

Just to clear this up, I always understood it needs 5W-50 full synthetic. What I was talking about is the specs that oil must meet. Ford sells two different 5W-50 oils, XO-5W50-QGT and XO-5W50-Q1GT which meets the newer API SN Plus spec. What I didn't know, and couldn't find much info about, was that Roush requires oil that meets or exceeds (API SP) the specs of XO-5W50-Q1GT.

From what I read it has something to do with pre ignition. In any case, seeing as Roush says its required, it would probably be best to use it at least while still under warranty.

You would have to piss off the warranting shop pretty bad for them to go through the trouble of verifying the spec of the oil. If it's even possible. I've never seen oil spec info from Blackstone.

Use whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy. If you can't return the Motul I'll take it off your hands. 🙂

No, I wouldn't expect them to test the oil. I dont know about Roush, but I have certainly heard of manufacturers asking for proof of oil changes if something goes wrong with say the engine. The receipt obviously says what oil it is.

Castrol Euro, Amazon Castrol store !
Shell products USA GTL, Easy to find, exceptional oils !

It’s that simple.

Blackstone is overrated IMO.

Ive mixed 3 qts 0w30 2qts 0w40 and 5 qts of 5w50 amsoil signature series and 2 bottles of ceratec (I had this lighter oil from when I was NA) No problems. It doesnt matter much I think as long as you keep it topped off and change when the oil life monitor says.

I don't have an answer, honestly. I just get the Motorcraft and call it a day since this is what ROush/dealer filled it up with since i had blower installed. sorry, dude.
