Roll through water box or back in?

I will be using MT bias ply on he back and my regular tires on the front. Should I drive through the box or back in to avoid my front tires getting wet?

Street tires in the front I would suggest backing in.

ALWAYS try to drive around and back in. At my track you dont have any other way to go but to back in which I love, especially with the number of people backing in on street tires and getting water everywhere. At least it wasnt 4 soaked tires.

Unless they are literally filling the bleach box full of water, just drive through, roll out of the box, do your burnout and get staged. Just did this last week, manual trans with MT ET street R bias and 19" street tires on front. Zero issues.

Brace your left hand on the steering wheel / arm on the arm rest going down the track / shifting. This will keep you from jerking the wheel when shifting. I had zero issues / sway / wobble.

Of course I also used to have a 10 second (what that was actually considered fast for a street car) Chevelle with non power drum brakes and manual steering on bias rear tires - and it wasn't THAT bad - granted sometimes pumping the brakes when coming down from those trap speeds wasn't exactly fun - but it kept me paying attention.

I would always try and back in if possible. The reason is, that little bit of water off your front tires leave could make the rears break loose going thru on high HP cars. A 13 sec car does not have enough power to worry about that. But, a low 12 sec car can.

I watched car after car Friday night. 9 second to 16 second. Not one backed in - well one did - the guy botched the first burnout attempt.

Not even all those running street tires drove around the bleach box. And one of those street tire cars was a Hellcat in the 11's.

And while it depends on multiple factors - everything else being equal - (Car, weight etc etc) 100 HP equals a FULL Second in the 1/4 mile.

So you are telling me a 400 HP will have issues but the 300 HP won't?

No offense....have you ever been to the track? Have you run bias ply tires?

I ran 28 psi in the ET Street R for the drive to the track...with speeds up to 70 ish - zero problems. Take the first few on / exit ramps / turns slowly it does feel a bit different.

I ran 18psi at the track. Zero issue with sway.

Be ready to botch your first run if you've never felt a stick car actually hook up off the line. You'll think you broke something or you'll bog it.

If you're on street tires, doing a true burn out is a waste of time and money. Just spin them for a second to clean them off. You aren't going to get much more grip. I mean... I do it because its fun, but... it makes almost no difference in my times.

On sticks or drags, burn out.

Drive in and let it rip. It's not like driving into a river. My local track mops after each car goes through and puts water down as you stop in the box. Launch on bias slicks around 4200 rpm seems to suit me well.

You need a Go Pro to catch the look on your face when the car hooks off the line. 50/50 you let off thinking something broke

I had a hard time getting it to hook . Finally launching at 3500 it cut a 1.71 60 foot time and ran 11.41 @124

What psi where you at on the rear tires?
Keep in mind, those numbers will bump up after heating the tires up.

What kind of burnout?
