I had this BU sensors on my BMW before this...also ordered the active cruise control......if you value you life and your passengers lives....a definitive "tick this box" item!

Do you have the fron impact alarm and red lights across the windshield warning you of an impending crash?? If so, do you hear that alarm??

I must say, all of this nanny state "safety equipment" is sure to lower the bar as far as genuine driving skills. The idea of turning yourself around and looking backwards when backing up, actually paying attention when you're driving, stuff like that.

Now, vehicles will keep you in your lane, warn you of something behind you, something in your blind spot, etc., etc.

No one has to be a good driver anymore. That's pathetic.

The sensors are worthless for someone like me with a hearing loss. The camera is good enough.
Do you wear hearing aids??

This sensor and front impact warning are worth your life! Certainly your cars life! I would never have a car without them.

The car doesn't come with a front impact warning, not in a GT350 at least. Hell, they don't even offer reverse sensors in GT350s. I think most nannies are unnecessary if you pay attention to your driving. How the hell did you manage without them 10 years ago? :headbonk:

A child's life is worth more than foolish pride. The blind spot in most vehicles directly behind the bumper is significant enough that a visual check isn't sufficient to see small children. There is a reason reverse cameras are now federally mandated on all new vehicles.

All of the newer safety equipment is supplemental. It's funny, I remember a time when people thought seat belts were a dumb. Along came airbags and...you guessed it, dumb.

Death rates per miles driven are the lowest they have ever been. Problem died more 10 years ago.

Safety Equipment

Saved my ass a few times from running over the neighbors pet, at night when I didn't see a tree stump, a kid that was riding a big wheel, midget walking by and yes it is useful. :D
Like I said it is useful - I bet some people here think roll bars and four point harness are useless too. :tsk:

I got BLIS but skipped backup sensors...regret that now along with not getting 20" wheels or at least the 19s.

I agree that some of this stuff is just asking for even less attentive drivers, like the lane keep assist for instance. Even an OK driver should be able to keep the car in the lane or they shouldn't have a license.
But some of these cameras and sensors can "see" what you can't no matter how you turn and look. If I'm in a parking lot between 2 SUVs (yes I avoid it all costs but sometimes its unavoidable) all I need to do is get the last couple of inches of the car out from behind those SUVs and it will let me know whether the coast is clear or not. There's no way I can make that determination from the driver's seat. I'd have to put far more of my car in harms way before I can see anything useful. Modern cars have far worse sight lines than older cars because the pillars must be made thicker for crash ratings.
And the one major factor that everyone seems to forget is that there are vastly more cars on the road than there used to be. Sure you could zip out of a parking spot without those sensors and not have a problem 20 years ago, but the odds are much less in your favor now.

Rear sensors...

The rear sensors (cross traffic) has saved me from at least two fender benders while trying to back out between large SUVs and pickup trucks. From the driver's seat I have absolutely zero viewing if I am surrounded while backing up.
I like to back into parking spaces because the backup camera and sensors help me gauge how far back I can park. The problem is when I then try to exit if I am between two large vehicles. All I see are door panels from the side windows. I then have to slowly creep forward until most of the hood is sticking out into cross traffic.
Forward/cross traffic sensors would be great for such a situation and also to keep the front bumper for hitting anything. No front sensors...no problem when the parking space is as long as the Mustang. But quite a few spaces are now designed for much shorter cars...if I can't get far enough forward, the rear sticks out.

I have the reverse sending package. I wanted it because I back into my garage within inches of my wifes car. I use the mirrors to get lined up, the lines on the display to distance my car from hers and the chime/beep to park as far in as I can. Do I NEED all this stuff? No, but it greatly reduces my time doing it.
