Does adding the reverse sensing change the rear bumper to the kind with the black circles on it (the sensors)? I'm not a fan of those personally. I'd think about the reverse sensing, maybe, if it didn't add those to the exterior of the bumper...

It as the sensors to the painted part of the bumper. They are much smaller than older models and I don't think they look that bad

Reverse park assist.

I'm of the opinion that it's just not needed. Yes it adds a beep when approaching the limits of the visual on the rear camera, yes it's only a few hundred bucks.

I just don't think that if you are watching what your doing, that you really need it. I don't like the idea of being or getting dependent on that kind of technology.

It's the same reason that I didn't get the B.L.I.S. system. Both items have disclaimers, that they are not a subsitute for keeping your eyes open and watching what you're doing.

If I was cruising down the highway or whatever and the Blis sytem DID NOT indicate that there was a vehicle next to me, I'm still not gong to just trust it and change lanes. I'm still going to look in the mirror and over my shoulder before hand.

I'll tell you what the Reverse Park Assit dimples are good for, collecting wax in the little circular grooves.

It's really just a matter of, when you're parking your car, knowing whether you're 1" in front of the car behind you and still have some room to back up, or 1/4" in front of the car behind you, and don't. That can be difficult to tell sometimes, depending on the shape of the front end of the car behind you.

And 1 in 1000 times, someone else will go for that same spot after you've already changed your attention back to the road in front and surprise you.

To me, that's the value of BLIS. Not so I can drive like an ASS HAT assuming the car will save me from myself.

I get that you assume people will stop thinking if they get these tech gizmos, but that's just not the case. They're not there for the 99.9% of the time, just the 0.1% where you prove you're human and make a mistake.

Nor will these gizmo's prevent all accidents. Granted, I've never changed lanes and actually hit someone before. I've never pulled out of a parking spot and hit someone before. But I've come close, and if it would help make them less close, it would be worth it.

Just my opinion though, but that's why I got a fully loaded GT.

I was in my friends Mazda the other day. He was parked between two SUVs and when he started to backup, his car alerted him of a car in the lane even though it wasn't behind him and not visible in the backup camera.

Does the mustang reverse sensors do this? This is my deciding factor on ordering this option.

The mustang backup sensors do look beyond the width of the bumper and back. So if something is off to the side a little and behind you, it will beep at you.

But the car was probably 20-25 feet away, but about to cross paths. It was basically a "there is a car coming" warning. Does the mustang do that?

I think that's like the Infiniti accident prevention system. Where the car has sonar of some sort which applies the brakes etc, in your friends Mazda's case it'll alert you. Not sure if the mustang offers that system, unless the BLIS option activated the side panel sonars to back up. Just speculation here, I'm not being much help [emoji53]

It's called Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert. So, yes, it has it.

And it works great!

So in order to get that, I need BLIS and it has nothing to do with the $300 reverse sensor option?

Just my thoughts on the Reverse Park Assist, I have a similar feature on my crew cab F150 without a backup camera. The sensors are so accurate I'm able to parallel park with confidence, normally not easy in a tall truck when the car behind is small and hides behind the tailgate. I ordered the optional sensors just because they work so well on my F150 and I know visibility won't be great out the back with the top up.
