Well, they won't release the vehicle for at least an hour after the last step to let the gear shift set. Look at the last page :

NOTE: Allow gearshift knob to set for 1 hour before releasing the vehicle.

So more like all day and hope they do it all correctly....uggh....Ford Pass says I got the issue.

Thanks for posting this. It convinced me not to go to dealership for this repair.

"NOTICE: Do not over articulate the driveshaft or damage may occur. The maximum articulation of any U-joint is 15 degrees. Damage may occur if any U-joint of the driveshaft is flexed further than the maximum allowable degrees."

Is this something anyone can access?
It’s tight but if you have a modicum of mechanical skills, you should be able to do it.

If you do it MARK THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE BOLTS - fig 12.

Helps to maintain original alignment.



A couple observations:
Who knew the OEM shift knob was a single use part????
If it says not to drop the transfer case more than 3”, why does it look like they dropped it about 6 1/2”?

Sorry Tank, I didn't write that very well. I was talking about accessing the instructions. Performing the job is easier than figuring out how to access the directions :).

Well, they won't release the vehicle for at least an hour after the last step to let the gear shift set. Look at the last page :

I believe that is simply to let the thread locker to dry a bit. They also say to have the customer let it set for 24 hours which is normal for the thread locker to dry fully.

I have an MGW I was going to install, may wait and have the dealer do this first so I can always go back to stock with the best factory shifter.

Mine has the issue. Now the struggle to decide wether to let the dealership do this or not.


By the way.

Is ALL that work required to swap the stock shifter necessary for the MGW shifter job?
