Hi All
Is it just me or do you find the downshifts a bit jerky when the rev match is off. Like going down from 4th to 3rd for example. It’s difficult to make it smooth without rev match on.

Nope serious question buddy
Have to really work the clutch biting point to get a smooth downshift without rev match.

Ok..
You know how when you're slowly working the clutch out, and the revs come up to match speed? That's why. You're making your momentum pull the engine up to speed, that's what you're feeling (the jerk). Before automatic rev matching people used to blip throttle on downshifts to bring the engine RPM up before coming off the clutch.

Yeh, in other cars I don’t so much jerk when the revs build but in the mustang it’s definitely more difficult to keep it smooth.

Still have the original clutch from when I bought the car new. Has about 30,000 miles on it now.
Although since new I complained to the dealer about clutch judder when pulling away that never really got any better. And of course the dealer said it was normal.

so you can leave the rev match ON, or rev match with your gas foot, or slow down more with your brakes before dropping to lower gear. Either one of the three can smooth that out for you. Your car is normal.

In all seriousness, people replace the clutch pedal assist spring with a lighter one to get a better feel of the clutch engagement point.

But yeah, the car can shift perfectly smoothly if the driver knows how to do their part and have put in the practice.

+1 on the clutch pedal spring replacement to a lighter spring, totally worth it. Yes it feels harder. Yes its worth it once u get used to it

rev matching in a mustang is harder than a corolla because the trans and clutch are way looser and slippier in a eco car than a sports car. All sports cars have a harsher bite clutch which means your own rev match blip must be better, your clutching has to be smooth, it can not be dumped if you arent rev matching perfect.

if this is too much work, keep auto rev match on. Or keep it off and work on your footwork to get the blipping and clutching right. If done right, the clutching is smoother than an automatic

You sound pretty new to a Manual? Chatter is caused by many things, but it can happen if you feather too much or you glazed your clutch. Also clutch is a wear item, good luck having a dealer replace that under warranty.

Either way the jerk is Normal. You got a V8 with beefy drive train you can't expect it to jerk the same as a Honda or whatever car you are comparing it too. In fact the drivetrain is pretty smooth in the Mustang imo. Pretty simple any manual transmission car without rev match will jerk some unless you blip the throttle. I think its best you just leave it on.

+1 on the spring. It will improve the feel, I did not like the non linear feel of the stock clutch. Steeda spring was great.

I really have not devoted time to doing this well.. Both rev match downshift or heel/toe downshift rev match when braking. I have an auto blip module for on the track, but on the street it is not usable.
I am determined to work on this ALOT this year.
One of the best videos I have found out there.
