Many of my cars were well in excess of 200,000 miles and I have never worn out a clutch or a syncro.
If you were riding with me and didn't see me move the shift lever you wouldn't know I shifted.
The only reason to rev match is to prevent upsetting the chassis during aggressive on the track.

puting the car in neutral acutally uses MORE gasIMO not needed to downshift and pass. Since you are pressing the accelerator anyway to pass, so you won't have that backward lunge of the car. And as far as slowing down, like I said I just put it in neutral and use the brakes, less wear on the transmission, and better MPG since the engine is disconnected from the wheels and just idling.
I think it is useful when you want to drop a gear(s) to accelerate to pass.
FYI You do it entering a turn to avoid engine braking the rear wheels, in addition to the rear brakes, and destablizing the car's balance. If you are turned slightly, or on a difficult camber, it could cause oversteer and/or spinning. One slows you down, the other stops you.

To put it another way, the ECU is smart enough that, if you are coasting to a stop in gear, it knows that the wheels are turning the engine and it doesn't need to inject fuel to turn the engine. It does this until the wheels are turning the engine less than about 1000 rpm. Then it starts adding fuel to keep the engine from stalling.puting the car in neutral acutally uses MORE gas

I think I want one of these...it works as advertised? Is there a pause for it to react? It doesn't look like it from the vidsI'm a cheater and installed this for the track.

Works great and I use it on the street sometimes when I want to make the 5.0 sound bad @$$.
Not sure who's doing the work on your car or what brake components you're buying, but I can have the transmission out, replace the clutch and put it back in in 2-3 hours. And a new clutch is a few hundred bux.Replacing brake pads is easier and cheaper than replacing a clutch.
I can also say the rev matching even on the auto is totally new to me but I love it. My previous two mustangs (03, 12) v6 auto mustangs did not have this. My new 16 mustang GT auto does this in S mode and I keep mine is S mode more than D for this reason. I love the sound it makes. Like a race car.I've never heard of Rev matching til I bought this one. So this is new to me and sounds fun, but normal city driving I kinda feel like a tard doin it. I'd love to hear the tech on why it's better if anyone can point me there.
I will also say, 2 out of my previous 3 mustangs I wore the clutch out fairly quickly on nearly stock power...but they were used and who knows what previous owner did. So I will keep doing it sometimes because the x pipe makes me get mini chubs
