Looking for some help -

I'm replacing my OE carbon fiber wheels with a set from Project-6GR with 4S tires to make the car more street friendly to drive & not damage my OE wheels at this time. I know many think I'm crazy for doing this, but want to give it a try.

Anything I need to avoid doing removing the OE lug nuts? Do they have plastic caps on top that need to be removed first?

Any insights from others who have done this is appreciated!

No secret, other than, if it still has the silver 2 piece design from factory I encourage you to throw those away and install these below instead.

why? well, it's a two piece design and just takes a few wheel changes before their garbage and your swearing ford's name and sweating trying to remove the lug nut that got stuck to the socket.

look it up, there are many threads of people freaking out, it's not a joke.

Can confirm above posters reply. Used to work at a ford dealer and saw many swollen lug nuts that were a huge pain in the _as to remove and or get out of sockets. Once they’re bad you’ll be stuck not being able to remove a wheel if you get a flat on the side of a road without calling for help. I haven’t had my wheels touched yet on my Mach 1 but when I go in for an appt next week I’m going to have them toss my gorillas on the car I ordered since they’ll prob be pulling the front wheels off anyway.

Thanks for the help! I just ordered the lug nuts so I don't have to mess with the OE ones later.

Just use a properly sized socket and you will be fine. Your choice in lug nuts is your choice, I use the OEM on the street because I like to preserve OEM as much as possible.

Did you get open ended lug nuts for the new wheels? The studs are longer on the R’s for the carbon wheels.

Also remember 6GR wheels do not have a standard 60° seat. They have a smaller lug opening and require those skinny, odd lug nuts...to the best of my knowledge. But I'd check on it.

The SVE and the Shelby cs21 wheels also require the long skinny open ended nuts.
Aren’t the oe lug nuts the same as the ones on the f150 and other models. They appear the same.

They sent new lug nuts to mount the wheels on my car and plastic caps if I choose to use them.

I'd just use those and add that to your partner's xmas list of things to get you.

Again...these won't work on 6G wheels. T's lug's have the factory (and somewhat industry standard) 60° seat. One of a handful of reasons I wouldn't want 6G wheels.
