How frequently do we need to change the air filter and spark plugs? My filter is pretty dirty and has turned rather dark brown. I have 10,000 miles. Should I use an aftermarket air filter or is stock good enough?

Also, is there a gt350 specific diy for the plugs (or the filter) or are they pretty much same as 5.0?

I have but its suggested intervals are way too long. It says 60,000 miles for air filter. Mine looks absolutely terrible at 10,000:) for plugs, I dont know. I thought I would ask here

I have 18,000 miles on my car and I've changed the filter 3 times. Maybe it's excessive, but I just change it when it looks dirty. It doesn't cost that much.

The Motorcraft replacement for the air filter (part # FA 1922) is $12.54 at Rock Auto.

If the filter bothers you, change it. It won't hurt anything.

Follow suggested maintenance intervals as spelled out in your documentation. For extreme or track use, I change fluids after each weekend event.

Get a nice Airaid or Ford Performance filter (blue or red, whatever you fancy)... looks better and has better filtration. Plugs can easily go 50k miles.. don't worry another 40 at least. Filter is identical to current GT500 filter :

It seems that filter is a toght fit to get on/off. Any tips/tricks or anything else to watch out for?

Remove the housing clamp bolts, then you can flex the air horn up and filter comes out easily. Also be sure to seat the "bump" on the bottom of filter on the bottom of the filter housing and TIGHTEN the clamp .

Thanks, I will make note of how tight the stock clamp is and tighten the new one same amount. I dont want to over tighten it and crack the intake housing.

I knew about bump facing down, but I m curious what role that bump plays and why it has to face down?

I installed the filter today without issues. The problem is I noticed the filter is very flimsy especially where the clamp sits on. The question is, is the $80 airaid filter higher quality fit and finish wise or is it the same everywhere except a different filter element?

Definitely a better filter ... not at all same quality. Very solid.
