Redline Strut Kit Question

I installed a Redline kit in my 2016 Interceptor Utility, works great. Tried to install a kit in my '22 GT today and ran into an issue.

I got the hood brackets on, and put a small piece of paint protection film on the hood in case of rubbing, etc.

I figured it couldn't hurt to put a tiny bit of 3M emblem tape under the fender brackets. I had to pull the battery cover to check...but the driver's side fender bracket rotated after opening and closing the hood twice.

I'm assuming the tape may not have allowed "fll contact" of the bracket against the fender and plan to try it without.

Wondering if anyone else had a problem with the fender brackets moving?

And...I don't quite understand via the instructions how I should re-route the washer line.

Well, I played with it a little more. There’s no way in the world I can get these bolts tight enough on the fender brackets to keep the brackets from rotating when in position.

I know everybody raves about these, but I’m completely disappointed with them. I’m gonna call the company in the morning and see what they think. I will keep this thread updated.

Also, the Redline hood brackets don't lock on the hood hinge the same as in the instructions.
Seems Redline is selling the 15-17 Mustang Hood Strut kit for the 18-23 Mustang even though there are differences in the model years.

I've played with cars all my life, including restoring some national award winning show cars....so I'm not a complete novice with cars. Last weekend, a friend installed these in a '23 Mach 1 in my garage. When I saw how well they worked, I ordered mine. My mind still can't understand how that fender bracket won't move when there's only one attaching point.

Redline ECO'd the fender brackets for 2018+. The ball is at a little lower elevation since there is barely enough clearance, and you can still get paint rubbing. I suggested adding a stick-on felt circle pad to prevent that. The new bracket has "27" stamped into it.

I feel your pain about the bracket rotating. You have to be very sure the oval aluminum piece fits inside the oval hole precisely. I pry up on the screw to help hold the oval wedge in the Home position while I tighten it. The metal is also very thin and can distort around the oval hole edges.

I think you could drill a hole through both the bracket and your fender so as to tap in a roll pin. That would surely prevent it from rotating.

Here’s a picture of the hose reroute. The clip has a tab on it that locks onto the hose so it won’t move. Just have to get a tiny flathead screwdriver to pop that open a bit then you can pull a bit of hose through

I’ve not had any issues with the fender brackets but it did take a little bit of time to make sure the red piece that goes into the hole was turned properly so it made full contact. Everything is tight and hasn’t moved

GTP, the oval was lined up. I was very careful about that. FWIW, looks like the Roush kit has 2 attachment points on the fender bracket-but you have to remove both hood nuts and hopefully not take the hood out of alignment with their hood brackets.

I left my prop rod in place. I imagine a bad day, on the side of the road, high winds, and having to open my hood!

It's also a good backup depending on what I'm working on under there. If I had to do it again, I'd probably even skip hood struts. :-/

That's exactly how I'm leaning....I'm equally annoyed that I need to replace the battery cover now that it has a big hole in it!

I also seem to think that there's a reason Ford didn't put them in the car. I also have to reiterate that the Redline kit I put in my '16 Interceptor Utility works great!

UPDATE> spoke to the VERY helpful guys at Redline. It's obvious that they want a happy customer. They offered to send a new pair of the fender brackets, with a modified "triangular" (my words, not theirs) piece that may better engage. In the end, I opted out and simply asked for a return. To which, they cheerfully agreed. I don't want to risk more scratching, etc.

There's no doubt that Redline is there to work with their customers. I'd buy from them again.

The only bad part is I need to get a new battery cover.

Drill a small hole into the hood bracket off to the side of the bracket (Before mounting to the hood) then use a small zip tie to secure the wiper hose.

I used a black Bunny Bread twist tie to attach my windshield water hose to my hood lifts..Works perfect.
