I think the prior owner was a big boy. I have the Recaro package and I love them. I’m 6 foot, 190, I fit in the seat like it was made for me. But the last owner put a beating on the driver seat.

The left thigh bolster the foam has been smashed down and I can feel the plastic poking up in the middle. The top left side bolster is loose. I can hear it squeezing. I think as he got out of the car, he was leaning all of his weight into that left upper bolster. It’s definitely loose internally. Fasteners are loose somewhere hopefully, I hope it’s not broken.

There is a decent automotive upholstery shop here. Can these seats be repaired? Can they order Recaro fabric and foam? Open the seats up and repair the internals?

or is it possible to switch the driver and passenger seat at least? The only visual difference I see is the clip for the seatbelt. It would be on the wrong side if I swapped the seats. Is there anything else preventing me from swapping the seats so at least I don’t make it worse?

I really don’t want to have to buy a seat if I don’t have to. I’m sure they aren’t cheap.

If you have an auto upholstery place they should be able to repair and fix it.

Look on eBay or forums for a Recaro driver replacement seat… easiest to do.

You couid try upholstery shops but you may find the cost of repair to be as much as just getting another seat and swapping it…

The biggest reason you can't swap left to right is the side airbags.

The side bolsters are steel plates welded onto the seat frame, so if they are broken, they would need to be re-welded.

Son of a bitch. How the hell did the guy break that? You would think if you were big enough that you are sitting ON the thigh bolster and snapping the side one off that you would get the leather seat package instead.

I’m gonna end up needing to get a damn seat.

But if you have to get it reupholstered, the fabric/padding will be off so that you can possibly have the frame welded.

I have a friend that works at Brandon Ford that told me about an exceptional upholstery place in Tampa, if you are in that area. Not sure if they do welding however...but they may know of someone.

Edit: BJ’s Custom Auto Upholstery if you or anyone else is interested.

I'd go talk to an upholsterer before I spent any money. Some of these guys can fix damn near any issue with a seat.

Back when I had a S2000 The driver side bolster broke down pretty bad by my fat butt sliding across it for several years. I found an upholster shop and had them fit the seat to fit me and it didn't cost me anything extra because the seat bolster had to be rebuilt anyway. Back then (10 years ago) it cost me $850 for both seats, ( the passenger seat was just recovered) . All leather and personal piping. Don't know what it would cost now. I would take it to a shop and have a quote to make the seats the way you like
