Yeah,,,. There's a very good, almost definite possibility that we won't be getting a Mustang after all,,. You know that old scenario of the Devil on one shoulder and the Angel on the other? Well, in this case it was Desire on one side vs. Reason on the other.

This Mustang was supposed to be a retirement or "Last Fling" send off for us. But now that cooler heads are prevailing, spending almost $40,000.00 for a toy really doesn't make financial sense when you're heading for a fixed income in retirement. And it's not that we 'need' a new car. The three vehicles we have are all in perfect condition and are all paid for. We're basically debt free and are trying to keep a decent amount squirreled away for unforeseen future problems. (that always seem to pop up when you least expect them.)

So,,, with all that said, I'll continue to visit this forum and experience the thrill of the new Mustang, through all of your threads and posts! Enjoy that fantastic car!

Enjoy your retirement. Being debt free (or close to it) going into retirement is a wise decision. Maybe look for a used S550 down the road once you see how things play out.

I agree with DABKO, and cheers on using your head to ultimately make this decision. A used 15 in two or three years will be considerably less and might get you responsibility and the toy without too much compromise. All the best!

Question is - can you afford it ? If you have the money, then it's a question of what do you spend it on. I'd rather spend it on Mustang than anything else as long as I can afford it, so I will be trading in 3-year old car with 28k miles that would probably be perfectly fine for years to come....

Because I want it and can afford it.

Get a base GT; I've seen them new for as low as $28,000 online. :)

I can see where you are coming from. When I buy mine (Last Fling for me too). Your retirement model make's since and your right about keeping that money for unforeseen expenses. I wish you and yours the best. Have fun with retirement.:D Just a thought, when you get board with it, (Retirement) you could try your hand at (Day Trading) Stock Market, it's not that hard to learn. Just keep too the cheap stocks under a dollar, and have some fun.

Cheers and good luck to you and yours. You have clearly given it much thought and made a wise decision. The Mustang is a hot ticket, but it's clearly at the top of a "Want" list, NOT a "Need" list!

That said, treat yourself to a Mustang rental on weekends once in a while! You can experience the car first hand, without the trappings of insurance and upkeep!

In a few years, buy a perfectly good used one. There will be a zillion out there.

Thanks for all of the supportive replies and suggestions. This forum has a great bunch of folks! :headbang:

Below is how I'll get by with out my Mustang, lol ;)

I've always been a "Motor Head" and I'll still get my daily fix with my 57 Chevy. This car has been in my family since it was purchased new back in 57 at Flatbush Chevrolet in Brooklyn NY. I was 7 years old and with my Uncle Max the day he bought her. (Hence, my forum name, Max57).
The Mustang was going to be the 57s stable mate sitting side by side.

Although I'm far from retirement, the angel on my shoulder is beginning to win as well. The local dealership just got in the EXACT combo I've been looking for (well, I wanted a stick, but I can live with an auto) and they even discounted it. I got my wife on board for a test drive, which pretty much is the green light for purchase. The dealership included a payment calculator below the ad and I started to play around with it. Even at 20% down, these things are still really expensive on a monthly payment basis. We're just getting out of the woods on my daughter's medical costs, so we're probably going to hold off until 2017 and see how much the 2015s depreciate or pick up a 2016 that's being discounted. I wish they discounted the outgoing models like the F150s.

May still go to the dealership just to sit in it though...haha The voice from the other shoulder is trying to convince me to settle for a v6.

WOW! What a gorgeous car! My first resto project was a '58 Olds Super 88. Learned a lot. I've got a soft spot for chrome, as you can imagine. ;)

That '57 of yours is a keeper and I'm sure it will give you many more years of driving pleasure. :coolphotos:

Yes,,,, it's very tempting. Especially when you go to the dealer and sit or drive one. My wife was more into getting the Mustang then I was and that's really saying something. In all our married life, she never showed any real interest in cars,,,, except this one!!! She really fell in love with it (as I did)! But even she saw the irresponsibility in going through with the purchase. It was her call and I support her decision fully. And no, there won't be any attempt to but a used one in the future. It had to be one that we custom ordered.
