Rattle from Instrument Cluster Piece (non Digital)

The plastic piece between the speedometer and tachometer on my standard instrument cluster has an annoying rattle. Picture below for reference. I know it's the problem because if I use a little force to push and hold it back against the cluster, the rattle stops. Has anyone else had this issue? Thoughts on a quick fix? The entire flat piece easily pops out, but I'd rather not remove it even though it serves no real purpose.

Same happened with mine after I swapped exhaust. Oddly enough, I think my new exhaust is quieter than stock. But anyway, I have that piece sort of half snapped in for now and will get some thin flocked/felt tape to get the rattle out.

I have the exact same problem (digital gauge, not that it matters - the part/rattle is the same). How do you snap it out without breaking it? I have been dreaming of applying felt tape under it. Anything to absorb the buzzy rattle.

I'm able to apply pressure in the middle/front of the piece (from underneath) and it pops out. Putting it back in place is what makes me think I'm going to break it!

Are you thinking about applying felt tape around the back that comes into contact with the rest of the cluster or where specifically?

I popped mine up and then put it back half way, now it is pinched and no long rattles. But it does stick up 1/4 inch, but it looks fine.

@txpat3 - I dunno yet. I put it in the position pictured above while driving* and thought I'd screw with it this weekend. If you find a trick, holler. There's a void under it. Might be able to stick a piece of foam in there.

I think it looks like it is supposed to be that way. That rattle drove me crazy.

Mine still likes to rattle when popped up like that, although a bit less . I may mess with it this weekend and will let you know if something works. It bugs the crap of me as well! The only solution that currently works is windows down, but it's been 100+ for more than 30 days straight here....

I put a piece of foam packing material (similar to a pool noodle) in the void under that piece and rattle is gone . You really can't see the foam from the driver seat and you don't have to worry about breaking that plastic piece by popping it out.

If you want to stop it.....

Just do a drop...and I mean a drop, of silicone sealant. Clear. Right in the molded crevice where you won't see it. Just enough to stop the buzz, not enough to cause an issue if the piece needs to be removed in the future.

I just cut a small square of sound deadening mat/foam and stuck it underneath.
