Maybe he's getting a dog and wants the fence up, but why not just adjoin it to yours? Maybe he's thinking in his head doesn't want to have any "issues" down the line?? Who knows?
That is a weird one indeed.

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
Fences are not cheap anymore. I’m spending $6,000 for about 100’ of picket around a large koi pond. It’s a shame you are considering removing what looks to be a fence that’s still viable. I feel bad for you and your inconsiderate neighbor. At my last home, the lots were all 1/2 acre and the covenants did not allow fences. Everyone, including me, had invisible fences for our dogs.

My guess would be for a dog or kids. I’d probably build a tall privacy fence right next to it. If I can’t see it or them the better.

if the guy was worried about zoning I would of paid for a 2 foot piece of metal fence to match his right here in the red then he could of just did exactly what he did, from house to it. that way I can still say that I guess I own that fence linear feet and back, and he could of gotten to use the yard no different.

I just think what he did Is retarded, and we do not talk. they seem anti social

Move your fence to his and add in a filler. You will barely notice his. Just hope his new dog doesn't bark a lot.
edit: You would have to anchor the sections differently., brackets maybe, or get permission to do it from his side.

that seems like a lot of work though, and still 2 fences butted up against eachother feeling tacky. id rather have a metal fence than 2 together, which means my only solution in my head is remove mine.

I mean I really dont know, I never installed a fence before, I was looking at a ryobi auger if I did undertake the task

Strap it to his fence. No posts. Neatly cleat some horizontal pieces across the joints to stiffen it.
edit: add a few strategically placed stakes and viola!

Ive had a fence up 10 years, neighbor wanted a new fence evidently. came home to this. .. 20 inches or so wide. makes me seriously consider removing my wooden fence, because maintaining between the fence is going to be a serious pain in the ass. I dont understand what is going on here.

Seriously about to toss my fence up for "free, come remove and fill holes" for the side fence, and I could expand the front over 2 feet to cover the gap and stop at his fence.

blows my mind- if I remove the fence I have to groom the yard where he used to have before he tossed fence up, because he lets his yard be dead, and you can see the difference. its annoying

Did you ask your neighbor what his thought process was and why he chose to go this route.

You can not do that. That is only permissible in municipalities where property‘s share a property line and it’s agreed upon by both parties. In those situations the fence is generally installed directly on the property line and is owned by both properties. Every where is different. Around here anything 8’ and under does not require a permit. This is in the city, not the county. And HOA rules aside. I feel for you that have neighbors directly next to you that aren’t neighborly.

I think we have spoken one time since they moved in, I doubt he would even answer the door if I went to communicate honestly. and its done, I cant do anything except try to improve my situation.

the stake, left of it is his, and right of it is mine. I kind of want to be petty, because they park big ass trucks like 2 of them lined up from their driveway into mine, if they are rude at all in anyway, im going to start having my gf car park AT the stake (keep in mind I havnt mowed to the stake because I always mowed to my fence line) because it would look weird for me to mow into what looks like his yard.

but yeah. if guy is a dik, I will spread my vehicles in front of my house with a gap, but not large enough to park a car between. and cover the entire duration of my curb.

but I am not trying to be petty, im just thinking mean thoughts.

oh, the guy PARKED HIS 20 foot trailer in front of my house on the curb! so when he moved, I started making my gf park there further up, he was making it so half of my house was covered by his trailer and causing my gf to struggle to park. behind the trailer, she was forced to sit in front of mailbox.

eff that. now he shoves it up in his little driveway, which he does not have any room for. at one point he had like 3 super duty trucks there and the trailer, basically taking all my park space in front of my house.

I have 3 cars here, me my gf and my roomie, gf parks on road. but with their trucks or trailer, she is forced to park infant of mailbox and thats a nogo to me. so I make her park up where shes at now. it blocks off their trailer so they park in driveway now with it.

he had to rip that tree out in his truck to do so recently. because he couldn't back in without smashing into the bushes on sides of their driveway

again, hes never spoken to me about anything.

Move your fence right up to his, or wherever the property line is
but in my mind, the fence is older, would it be worth it really to transplant? seems like a total pain in ass.

I figure if I did that, id go VINYL privacy or something along those lines to last forever. even if I transplanted my wooden fence I still think it'll look weird, 1 fence is better than 2. unless I put a 8 foot wall up.

Parking off of a designated driveway ( like on the lawn) is also a no-no in most normal circumstances per the zoning ordinance. I know you don’t have a normal circumstance however. He seems to be downgrading his home and all around him. Nice guy
