I can’t believe how expensive they are nowadays. I thought the Escort back in the day when I was 20 was expensive. I am still considering getting one for my trip from California to Florida
Thousands less than a ticket plus insurance surcharges.

If I remember correctly the my original Escort was $299 and my first Valentine was $499. That sound right?
That matches my memory, but I've learned to not trust my memory much anymore. So I have no idea if I am agreeing nor not LOL.

Anyone have good advice on the best radar detector? I’m in between the Uniden R8 and Escort Redline 360.
Valentine it can sense radar laser from in front and back.they invrnted that years ago don't know if others have it now but it's great feature

I was a hard core Escort fan since the early 80s. Then they started using cheaper capacitors in the power section. If you leave it in the car in the hot sun, the capacitors would fry and you had to send it in for service. I got tired of that real fast! Switched to Uniden. VERY happy with the R8. Totally recommend it!

I cant speak on the R7, but the R8 detects laser as well.

Thanks for all the help!! I went with the R8 after heavy consideration. Valentines was close
Good choice. Consider Lazer jamming if used where you drive. Definitely check rdforum for radar configuration settings for your driving areas. Also note it takes time to learn. Run the update as well

I only use my R4 on highway. Should have mentioned R9 with Lazer jamming ....this will be my next one....hopefully Uniden introduces laser addon they already have port on the radar.

Awesome. If you're looking to get your radar detector out of your way, along with the cable, I recommend getting a mount from Radar Mount! It also comes with wiring to power it from your mirror.

That's a clean install and way cheaper than blend mount. Is it as sturdy as it looks?

Still using my R3 that I bought with the car in 2018. Maybe missing a few of the new bells/whistles, but with continuous software updates, it’s still a great detector. Best range of any detector I’ve used including V1 and Escort.

I just did a road trip from PA to GA. On the return trip I hit up Tail of the Dragon before heading back to PA. I had zero issues. Visibility was great. The only thing I did was basically turn it's screen off because at night it can be distracting. But the screen comes on when there is an alert, so I have no complaints!

My R7 detects it. But I have done some research on it and its usually too late when you get the warning. The only thing that works is jammers which are illegal.

Agreed. I was skeptical at first, as I'm not the most confident with electrical work. But after a couple YouTube videos, it was easy. I unplugged the rearview mirror, but if you know where to tap the wires into, it's really not necessary to unplug it.
