I am new to radar detectors. Purchased an Escort IX and the M1 Dashcam. Was looking to have both (actually wanted a dash cam more). Installed both but the false alarms from the radar detector are annoying. I am using the GPS lockout but it still gets annoying (K and X band). Sometimes I don't know if I want to lock out a signal, thinking it might be legitimate. I was thinking about swithing to the Escort Max 360 (already invested in M1 Dashcam) so I can have directional arrows, so I can at least tell what direction the radar is coming from. Im thinking this will add a little more context for determining if I need to lock out a signal.

Just looking if anyone else experienced the same annoying issues and what they did to combat it.

Thanks in advance.

I gave up the radar game and just use waze and my eyeballs. Paying a good chunk of change for a lot of irritating false alarms seems counterproductive.

I have an older model and think there is interference with other detectors around. If I don't see any cops around I drive merrily on...

i have the max 360 and its great.. Only real issues are New Hondas. Hondas give a K band alarm its annoying because usually K and Ka bands are police.

I currently use an 8500 and a Solo II. The Solo II is amazing how few false alarms it picks up, but it's range is no where near the 8500. In town, I usually fall back on the Solo II. For highway travel, it's always the 8500. I used to have a V1 and swore by it, but it was the king of false alarms. It's still a great detector, but man does it pick up everything. The 8500 has the range of the V1, but way less false alarms (still enough to be annoying though, particularly in the city). I do miss the directional arrows though.

With the 360 Max, did you have to go through the learning process of locking out signals or are the annoying false alarms less with the 360? I am also in Houston and the drive down I-45 can get annoying with false alarms. I am locking them out as I go and they are getting fewer but still occur.

You only need to run Ka, MRCD, and Laser. The Uniden R3 is a great one. Barely ever makes a sound but will pick up a cop at 3 miles away easily. Even in NYC picked up a cop over half a mile away through a winding road and concrete buildings on both sides.

I'm in Houston, and use the Max 360. I didn't really have to do any learning with it. I set it on AutoNoX in the city and it works pretty well.

Check where you live. Most states don't run x band anymore (I'm in Ohio and we do, although I've only ever encountered it twice in small towns) usually any x band you get is from automatic door openers. I run a valentine 1, and it's chatty, but I have mine set up the way I like it and have learned to "read" it and can pretty much decipher threat vs. Non threat. That said, when your in the city, your probably going to get falses. Where most detectors shine is on the highway where there are less chances of there being falses, so when you see one there is a better chance of it being real. Here in Ohio though, cops on the highway use the lidar gun far more than radar and in that case, if your detector does laser too, it just let's you know your getting a ticket. You would need an active jammer to beat that. Back when I was more into this type of thing, laser interceptor was considered one of the best, if not the best for that.

I am a fan of the R3. Still get the Honda falsing but quite the beast at detecting real threats. Might want to check out rdforum.org and get your learning on..detectors and their use can be a learned black art.

Been running a cheap cobra radar detector since 2007. Saved my ass plenty of times. Yes, every phuckin GM product with blis sets it off with K band. Only really use it when logging or playing in Mexico.

Valentine One here. It contributed to its cost last Sunday. Might have saved me a c-note.
