The mt-82 rebuild from ben is like 2500 for his beefed up rebuild but itll break eventually. However it is a nice bit stronger then stock but it doesnt hold a candle to tranzillas. Tranzilla is what nelson racing uses in his big block builds. I did the leg work in researching this. I cant find a manual to handle the power where i want to go and the r680 isnt nearly strong enough even beefed up. Ive decided on a th400 swap with a manual valve body. But for almost everyone here that wants a 800-1200whp manual the tranzilla is perfect for them.
What level does the standard Magnum break at? I sorta already bought it which is why I'm asking. They claim a 700 lb.ft torque rating which should be plenty for me (for now). Tranzilla would be nice, but I'm looking at an Aluminator right now too so an extra 2k on top of the standard magnum seems like a lot.

I haven't opened it up, but my assumption is that 6th gear completely broke. 1-5 work fine and I can actually still drive the car, but being in 6th is the same as neutral. It's the 5 speed conversion :D
that is impressive. How much torque does Paxton 5.0 make at 7000 rpm? I doubt there is many people here putting that much load on the 5th and 6th gears. Do you shift slow or fast? Some transmissions advertise torque ratings but it seems like each gear would have its own torque rating.

Honestly I'm only around 500 peak torque but it's a 3.73 so I was topping out 5th on the long straight and needed 6th. Nothing like racing in your freeway gear lol I was shifting pretty fast so that's probably what did it. I don't think 5/6 is commonly power shifted. Ben told me he's never seen 6th just break the way I described. Lucky me!

Itll handle it for awhile at around 800-900whp but it will break. The 13-14 gt500s eventually broke their 6060 on a maxed out stock blower (800-850whp) which isnt much different then a magnum xl in power rating. That 2 grand more will be worth it when you arent paying to fix your trans again eventually. Sticking with the standard xl will cost you more money in the long run because like i said it will break.

http://www.rsgear.com/products/transmissions/tremec-t56.aspx

Stock Ratio with 9310 Alloy 4 Bolt Main Shaft rated at 850 Lb/Ft of torque

transmission torque rating seems to be for main shaft, not each gear. I think a new MT82 is relatively inexpensive. What is your speed requirements? It might be that an MT82 with 3.31 gears is good enough if you won't have to put any torque on the 6th gear. 6th gear is supposed to be for cruise control.

But if you have the cash, definitely get the Tremec Magnum XL. As many of us are interested in Tremec transmissions.

If you're interested in getting rid of your mt-82 I'd consider buying it. I'm in cali but a bit of a haul from chino.

Ben Calimer said:
Level 1 build is 800. That includes bronze shift pads and billet shift stop to replace the factory plastic pieces. I also weld the forks for strength and smooth the sliders and hubs for smoother shifts as well as a few other tricks I do.

Level 2 includes cryo treatment and rem polishing and is an additional 900. Those prices are for a trans in excellent condition. T

Turn around on level 1 is 2 days. Level 2 is 3 weeks

Level 1 will hold the same as a stock trans it just shifts a lot better. Level 2 is a really stout trans. Lots of customers making over 800 with them.
Due to time constraints I only went with a level 1 build. With FedEx Ground shipping and replacing 4th gear synchro total cost was $1065.

Ahhhh dude that's not even bad... I might have to cancel my T56 order. So torn between the 2. 1065 vs 5500 sounds pretty nice though. Are you boosted?

If I stick with the T56 plan I'm down to sell it. I have an MGW as well with 2 days of use on it. Wonder what shipping is like from here to there.

I'm n/a and plan on staying that way, that's why I wasn't too worried about not going with Level 2.

It was all the passes at the track w/spray and drag radials that started the problems. I won't be making that mistake again. ;)

Its definitely on the very cheap side if you dont need his best beefed up build which was around 2500 iirc

I just posted his top tier, level 2 build, is only $1700, ~$1900 with insured shipping both ways.

Calling out OKC #1 spot after axle back install.
So my transmission popped (lost 6th, random). I ordered the T56 Magnum XL along with driveshaft and Exedy 700 clutch from BBR and am looking for some information on the install. Does anyone with experience installing this tranny know if a TOB shim will be necessary with the new transmission/clutch setup? And also, in previous model years I have seen posts from others regarding issues with bell housing alignment. Is this still an issue with this kit and if so what is recommended for ensuring proper alignment? I already blew one transmission, I want to make damn sure I do this one 100% right.

I guy in my Mustang club lost 6th. He has no power adder engine stuff but tracks it. He rebuilt it. He's a Ford tech and rebuilt it like the guys who build up the MT-82 apparently.
