So paddle shifting with my current DSG is quite enjoyable - the shifts are quick, and the 6 gear setup makes shifting feel as close to driving a manual as I'm going to get without adding a pedal to my setup.

My question is, do you find that paddle shifting on the A10 to be awkward, in that you have so many gears to go down through?

With a 6spd, I can be traveling on the highway, double tap the down paddle, and instantly be in the power band in 4th gear.

With the A10 having a ton of overdrive gears, I would imagine the scenario being: Cruising in 10th, tap tap tap tap, accelerate and overtake.

Any chance that the paddles automatically skips gears?

Good question. I am curious to know the answer to this as well.

Your probably going to better off leaving it in drive or sport, it will automatically shift from 10th down to 3rd when you mash the gas faster than you could flip the paddles

In my SHO if you're in Manual mode and nail it, the trans will downshift as many gears as needed for you and it's up to you to upshift. Does the Mustang work the same way?

Agreed. The paddles are useless when in shifter is in “D”.

I shift from “D” into “S”; when, I want power to pass. But, that will put me in manual mode if I tap a paddle. I want the drive mode to switch to “S+” when I tap the down paddle while shifter is in “D”.
Cheers,

So it sounds like paddle shifting doesn't work so great on the A10? I wish there was a setting that would treat it like a 6 speed (probably something like 1-2-3-5-7-10).

If it's like the sport mode with the A6 in our '13 it should downshift itself when needed, or wanted. It would odd if Ford didn't design it that way. I possible how about one of you lucky folks that have an '18 already give it a try. Mine hasn't been built yet. Thanks.

It works great but if you want want it to drop 6 gears fast you will have to click more than twice...

With the A10, its not worth the paddle shifters, I only use them to down shift from time to time if I want it to auto rev-match to help me slow down or make more noise. Driving it while speeding up means your always shifting and requires a lot of looking at the gauge to keep an eye on your tach and speed.

Overall its a great transmission and I love it, but buying it I thought I would be able to use the paddle shifters more, and nope not the case. Leave it in D or Sport + and let it do what it does and you'll be happy.

I would think the paddles are only useful on a road course. But I'm just guessing

Imagine a 10 speed manual. Yeah… no. Just too many gears to shift manually and not enough time between shifts. As others have said, I use it occasionally to downshift if the A-10 doesn’t seem to want to, but otherwise it’s just too much work.

I'm assuming that paddles will be best for typical autocross using 1, 2, and 3 as appropriate. For a road course track similar but primarily using 3 - 6.

The A10 has 3 overdrive gears. That's pretty normal nowadays. AGA0E (LC500 trans) 1:1 is 7. 10R80 1:1 is 7. ZF8 1:1 is 5. TR6070 1:1 is 4. And so on and so forth. Look ahead and plan as much as you can. In an actual manual you kinda have to be doing that anyway but at least you have one less movement to make.
