I like this idea.

This idea, not so much. But that size of drill can be pricey.
HF will get it done and get you started. The bit is pretty cheap. This is how shade tree mechanics compile thousands in tools.

HF just opened a store 5 minutes from my house. I’m doomed 🤣

I own the whole price spectrum of tools. Icon hand tools/pittsburg sockets can do some real work!

My sockets are all Craftsman as are my torque wrenches. Everything else is all over the place. If you haven’t tried, GearWrench ratcheting wrenches are pretty good. Haven’t put them through the ringer too much yet but so far they’re doing well.

I definitely believe it. I’ve got some gear wrench ratchets, Craftsman stuff from when it was made in the USA, Snap-On, Tekton, etc.

I’m a pretty solid believer in good products rather than good brands 👍.

I have a weakness for tools... Next up is a HFT small roll around tool box that you can load up for specific job, I hate walking all the way back to my main tool box 2 bays away. Just the wrench socket drawer, I'm sure there are some guys way worse off than me.

I don’t read minds.
Sorry for being defensive.

This is after fresh tape and then single use.

So I replaced the tape with stronger duct tape. This socket is only for the breaker bar.

I will try this for the impact gun to spin the nuts on our off. Lots of clearance with this regular socket. We'll see how it goes.

The plastic-sleeved, non-marring lugnut sockets seem to come with an inner plastic sleeve to aid alignment and protect the wheel studs. But the ID of that sleeve seems to be 12mm and not fit our 14mm studs.

For those that use this tool, did you remove the inside plastic sleeve, or drill it out?

Interestingly, this has been a search of mine for the last 2 days, so timely thread.

Even with good duct tape, the outside abrasion is so great I'm having to replace it from time to time.

As for the inside UHMW I'm guessing you'd be able to knock that out using a nail set or old screwdriver inserted from the square drive end. If you are wanting to remove it to get more depth, maybe if the insert may be so thick that you can cut off enough to reinsert it and have clearance you need, providing protection. (I've seen a lot of reviews of lug nuts rusting, and I'm guessing that inner UHMW insert may have prevented some of those complaints, as once the lug nut coating is breached, rust can creep in and travel under the initial protective lug nut coating.

About an hour ago I ordered a sleever from Grainger for my Gorilla locknut key. Actually there are 3 in the pack in case for when they get worn or I need wheel protection for my other car.

I have a flip socket set for the 'regular' cars, and for my Mustang with aftermarket wheels I just use a spline drive socket with spline drive lugs, they are very narrow and have never worried about damaging the inside of the lugnut wells.

No worries. FWIW a couple other ideas:
Not sure if either would adhere well. Both have color options.

After purchasing the Gorilla acorn locking nuts I did, I understood why American Muscle lists narrow spline locking nuts for the CS-5's.

I wanted the acorn look showing, not a spline look. So of course I made more work and concerns for myself doing so buying the ones I did. (You cannot see the lock splines in the pic b/c they are near the base of the nut.)

Anyway, next time I'd think twice about going the route I did. Not so sure the aesthetics were worth the extra concerns. But then, most folks don't have to deal with removing installing wheels too much beyond tire rotation or replacement.
