Purchasing question

Question for everyone. How much more would you pay for a used car 2018+ that all things being equal came with or without a ford performance supercharger? Like the supercharger is about $6-8k plus install.

But if you ever go to sell it with it on it's generally accepted it retain little to no value. So how much more would you pay for one car over another, the only thing being one with the supercharger, one without?

Trying to figure out how much I would be willing to pay for it already being installed, understanding it may not have any value over a stock car if and when I would sell the car, if that makes sense.

Like most things, the answer is it depends.

But speaking in a very general sense, a significantly modified car is worth less than a stocker.

If the value of a car isn't more with a blower on it when you go to sell, figure you'll get close to the same thing when you buy. If you can convince yourself a blower installed car is in good mechanical shape and hasn't been too badly abused, then it's worth buying. That's how I ended up with my '16. Paid essentially plain GT price and got close to 10k of mods at no markup. A lot of value for the money.

Better hope you're able to find out all you can about that car before even buying... a blower or turbo isn't added just to go get groceries or bring Ma to the hair salon on Saturdays...

Also better be sure you find out who did the tuning on it and IF it is supposed to have an external tuning dongle or device - that it comes with the car.

Find out who did the supercharger install - was it a reputable shop/Dealer, or some dude in his driveway installing used parts and following DIY steps on YouTube...

There's been way too many threads on here and other sites where emotions buy the car - but it won't pass emissions, the tuning dongle or device was not included, the now new owner doesn't know who tuned it and to what level, AND they start to experience issues with the car.

Not saying all forced induction buys are bad, BUT for modern vehicles these days - be forewarned that a "tune" is and can sometimes lead to other issues IF you don't know the prior history of that vehicle.

If it's on a Ford Dealer's lot - ask for an OASIS report on it to make sure the drivetrain warranty is still intact too (if applicable by the original 5/60 Powertrain or if it had an ESP).

Again, do your due diligence when buying any S550 that has forced induction - regardless of price point.

As others mentioned too - modified vehicles like that are also sometimes harder to unload or sell because of the very things mentioned above.

I would never buy a used car that had an aftermarket blower, turbo, etc. on it. Period.

Thanks for the replies. For the record it’s the Ford performance supercharger that was installed at the Ford dealership.

They’re pricing the car about $5k over a comparable car without the supercharger. Not sure they’d ever give you a dollar more for the same car modified, so it’s hard to know whether I should give them any more for it having the supercharger on already.

They’ve had it on the lot quite a while so we’ll see where it goes from here.

Not necessarily, it depends on whether the person/group installing it have experience installing it. If it is a self install then ok can agree with you but if the person/team installing it are specialists then it can be an improvement.
