As a base owner with the 3.15 Gears I can tell you the gas mileage sucks around 15mpg city around 20 Highway. You will not notice a difference with the gears in terms of gas mileage and it is still sort of a matter of debate whether it is that big of a difference with a lower gear ratio power and traction especially with auto's.

If you are concerned about gas mileage don't get it I would get a eco-boost.

Why not just get a premium ecoboost. Throw a tune on it and you will have some nice power with great mpgs and be in a nice interior

So I am part of the vw tdi dirty diesel deal I own a 2014 tdi and I am going to have them buy it back it seems like that is the better deal. It's been an okay car the 610 miles a tank is whole reason I got it but now I'm just starting to think life is too short to get good gas mileage and I could use a fun car now. I am looking at the base GT maybe with performance package ? But don't have the budget to go that high it will all depend if I catch any good sales or anything a long those lines. I was hoping some of you could help me out because those GT will be a daily driver it won't be shy of getting miles so I keep hearing rumors on and off about GT owners with the base model gearing seeing high 20's to 30 mph highway? Also would the performance track package be worth the extra because of the different gearing and all that? Hoping to go test drive a base GT but I don't want to touch a automatic seems like around my area a base GT manual is hard to come by thanks for the feedback

VW will be buying my TDI back as well.

I enjoyed my 2010 TDI for what it was, but honestly, I got bored with it long ago. The 40+ mpg was nice, but obviously it's not a performance car.

Anyway, I'm absolutely loving my 5.0 GT. I would only count on 20 mpg average. Depends on your driving obviously, stop go percentage...
I've had a low average of 16.5 mpg, and a high of 23 mpg between fill ups.

On all highway with 3.31 gears you can get 27+ mpg at reasonable (not hypermiling) speeds.

When I do commute my car to work and drive around in various hw/city driving my average is 17mpg. I have the PP with the 3.73 gears. That also includes playing around. So I wouldn't expect much more or much less. If you were strictly on a highway and kept it in 6th going 70 I'm sure you could take a snapshot like some people showing great gas millage but that all drops back down once you start driving the car like a GT.
