I am a recovering acoustic engineer. Make your first $40 expense that of a Radio Shack SPL meter. Set it to 'C' weighting, with high averaging.

Place the meter in a single location such as the center arm rest. Now start measuring situations to get familiar with levels. Different roads, throttle, windows up/down, etc. Whatever you want.

Make your next purchase also something affordable. For example buy a cheap entryway rug to put in the spare wheel well. Something like that.

Then report back here only if your meter changes level AT ALL.

I have the corsa sport and to be honest.. Im dissapointed at how much noise I lost removing the sound tube. I think before you do anything just take it out. Im certain I had more noise inside the car stock than I do after with the corsa and intake/tune.

"I want a quiet Mustang" said no one ever. Except OP.
cueball not paying attention! I paid 1400.00 for a corsa exhaust so it would be louder on the outside. as stated already, I'm looking to negate some of that noise on the inside of the cabin and try to kill some of the rattles and buzzing.

Maybe a noise cancellation system/kit? Not sure if there is such thing available for sale though.

Another vote for Raamat. However, if you're like me, start the cutting/sticking job wearing gloves. I sliced myself up pretty well considering the metal backing of the mat, plus sharp corners on the bare metal interior.

Covered every square inch of the floor, trans tunnel, rear seat area, and trunk. Made a huge difference in rattles and drone. That was running long tubes to borla stingers on a 2005. It won't eliminate it all, but it will reduce them significantly. Doing the doors will help as well. I want to say I maybe did two layers all around. It took a full weekend, all day two days plus 6 hours one evening, that's all I remember.

In my Civic and this Mustang, I am amazed at how much noise comes in through the trunk/rear shelf. I had a metal pan with some metal parts I had taken to the shop to be bead blasted. The metal parts in the pan sounded like they were in the back seat going over bumps! On the Civic, there was zero insulation between the rear shelf metal and the plastic cover. Insulating that made a noticeable difference. As for road noise on rough pavement, the only thing that made a difference was swapping touring tires for the Conti Pro Contacts.

2016 GT vert added Flowmaster Street cat-back. While I liked it momma didn't. As you may know or will find out there is zero insulation in the trunk especially that big drum where a spare tire would go.

Discovered that during build Ford looks to put one piece of dynamat like material in a pretty inaccessible place in the void on the metal shelf under the deck lid behind the rear seats where the vert top folds into.

Anyway had an audio shop owner friend put double layers of dynamat like material - at 65 I am no longer a trunk monkey (Google trunk monkey for some laughs) - all over and I mean all over.

Passes wife approval.

Prior to this I simply stuffed an old quilt into the space behind the seats where the vert top folds and that had a very positive effect. Not practical if you want to go topless but the sound insulation has worked well making wife happy.

Me...now I have to say vroom Vroom VROOM while in the car.

My car transmits a lot of road noise and exhaust noise to the cabin. I'm thinking of gutting the interior and trunk and putting down some sound deadening insulation. Has anyone done this yet? I love my exhaust but I would really would like to take the cabin noise down a notch or 2. I drove my moms lexus yesterday and man the lack of all the noises was sweet(the slow acceleration was not)
I also plan to attack the 3-4 interior rattles I have, I'm tired of pushing on pieces to get it to stop.
It's not a quiet car but think it could be. I don't want to hear road noise. Exhaust I want to hear. Subd.

I can't stand road noise, sounds like my bmr bushings are gonna add even more, delrin. So, catless headers and Corsa extreme should take care of the road noise.

I've got a radio shack slp meter, so I'll do some comparisons between my car and my wife's car.

Driving a LEXUS is like driving a lifeless, bland, polite car. You are supposed to hear some road/exhaust noise with a Mustang. (Not Drone) It is impolite and unruly. The reason I've owned six ACURA's over LEXUS is the cars are too damned bland. Why on Earth would you want a Mustang that has the attributes of a LEXUS?

Go here: https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ and do some reading. The site is really informative and tells you exactly how to tackle different sections of your vehicle. Forget about Dynamat, that's just a waste of money. Not because it doesn't perform well, but because it's horribly overpriced. If you're going to be adding CLD to your panels to help with resonating panels get it from SDS or Knukonceptz as they are the highest performing for the money. Go by the 25% rule as described on SDS. People who are covering every square inch of a panel with CLD material are just wasting money. They are spending 4x as much to gain a few % in performance. Law of diminishing returns.

If you want to actually quiet your ride you need Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) with a layer of Closed Cell Foam (CCF) sandwiched between the vinyl and the car's sheetmetal. https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ sells both but IMO i'd go with Luxury Liner Pro from http://store.secondskinaudio.com/luxury-liner-pro/ as it's a premade product with both materials combined.

If you're trying to get rid of drone, neither of the above will help you (well the CLD might help with rattles). You need to simply change your exhaust. As dumb as it sounds, I wanted a loud exhaust, but I also wanted to block out some of the loudness inside the cabin. I'm in the middle of my audio install right now so my interior is ripped out. The exhaust was driving me nuts so I just literally threw Luxury Liner pro in the trunk and back bench. And now my decibel reading is the same as if I had my interior in. I would imagine that once i reinstall my interior it should drop even further. This is without treating the trunk walls or sealing any gaps. The Luxury liner pro is just laid out like a tarp.
