Yes, you better get a second car if you buy a paxton/vortech in a cold weather state without a garage... !!!! Pro charger has no such restrictions because it uses straight cut gears and the helical gears are not effected by cold weather either!!

Something similar, but not as drastic with Procharger. Their manual states not to go above 2500rpm until engine is at normal operation temp. Not really the same, just a warning.
Going into boost before operating temp is a no no with any power adder. But this paxton/vortech cold temp thing is for start up only, an entirely different thing!

I started on a used P1SC-1 and it was great and made killer 650whp...then I saw what an X series blower could do...wow was I impressed...nearly 700whp on 93 octane with an HO kit and Stg II intercooler and he was otherwise stock on the same pulley as me...so I bought the big boy F1A-94, I don't recommend an F1 for the faint of heart, get a P1X if 93 octane will always be your thing and get the D1X if you want to go race gas or e85 and hit 1000whp...the F1A-94 though, it is an animal...

Now for real; I personally have installed 4 Procharger kits on these cars and only 1 Paxton, this isn't because they lack popularity, I find there are a ton in the wild. The belt layout on the HO procharger simply makes more sense and isn't as hard to access things. A friend had an issue with his 2200sl rubbing on his hood oddly enough when his stops were set to level with the fenders. The Procharger Red Race Valve is intoxicating and there is a reason JPC offers one aftermarket for the Paxton guys... Procharger also has great tech support located right in Lenexa, KS, I literally flew in and they made me a new idler pulley and I went about my day (great people that even remember you at a race months later).

if installed correctly, you should never need to take a belt off of either setup. i personally like the shared drive system, and we can change a belt in about 15 minutes on them just have to know what your doing. but, shoudln't need to change a belt, but every few years.

on the valve, i do like loud valves, but as many people that like loud, don't like loud, goes back to the blonde, brunette, redhead thats why so many kits, because not each kit is perfect for each person.

The d1x is rated at 1000hp not 950...it makes 75 more rwhp then a d1sc at the same boost level, and it has a billet impeller. I had a paxton on my last car and now I have a procharger d1x. After having both kits i prefer the procharger kit over the paxton..
Awwwww.... :cheers::cheers::cheers::headbang:

With the new x blowers my vote goes to procharger. I like the install better, and location of the blower better as well.
Thanks man! I will pass the kind words onto the dudes that designed it.
They loved hearing feedback. :) (and they also race mustangs, but one has a LS in it... shhhhhh)

Our blowers have NO issues with low temp. :)
We build them the same way we build them for the military :)

The 2500 is more of a "hey man, just be nice to your motor" kinda deal.
Anyone that likes their car, shouldn't be beating on it till shes up to temp.

The P1X is basically MORE then enough blower to break a stock engine.
So not really a reason to go beyond that, unless you are planning on E85 and setting it on kill.
Almost everyone I talk to that gets a P1X is like "well I was going to upgrade, but don't think I need to"

Its a great bang for the buck blower, that easily can achieve 9-second passes.
(I think the fastest I have seen so far with it is a 9.30... but I swears someone just went 8's with one)

My personal 2016 race toy is getting a D1X, only for two reasons.
1) I already have pistons and rods for it (just not installed)
2) I already had the blower, and didn't feel like buying another one LOL.

Rock on!

I’ve had both systems on the same car.

P1SC HO kit with Stage 2 Intercooler
Paxton 2200sl kit (Beefcake Stage 2 kit)

Both are of comparable quality of fit and performance.

It's alot of personal opinion but this is why I went Procharger

- Better mounting location. Not mounted right next to the engine is better for heat transfer and complexity.

- Related to above, having all the pipes cross over each other just doesnt make sense to me. Procharger's piping goes in a more sensible direction. No moving the coolant tank off to the side.

- Bigger and nicer looking intercooler

- Stage 2 gives an 8 rib dedicated drive belt which is easy to remove/change belts if needed. If you break a belt you can still drive the car (not that you should break a belt, but still).

- No cold temperature restrictions.

It's also a slightly easier install from what I've been told.

Paxton is cheaper and is still a great kit, but Procharger ticked the boxes for me. I have a wastegated P1X that I'm very happy with.

Nothing bad to say about either kit. Both required some 'massaging' to get the boost pipework fitted up properly.

As previously mentioned, the Procharger kit has a nicer intercooler with that Stage 2 upgrade, definitely liked it a lot.

Why did I go Paxton second time around?

3 reasons:

-Vortech had got the CARB certification when I was looking at my second blower kit and at that time Procharger had no CARB legal kit. (They have now released a special CARB legal kit that mounts the blower in the same location as the Paxton/Vortech kits and only offer the kit in standard 6 rib shared drive configuration)

-I always liked the Paxton blower location, having a big polished blower snail smack you right in the face when you open the hood gets me every time

-Fancied a change second time around.

Some guys like the Procharger blower location, some guys like Paxton... no right or wrong choice...both are solid and make great power.

Since a Procharger photo has been posted, here is my Beefcake Paxton kit (polished blower is definitely a worthwhile upgrade!):

If you want to make more than 750whp reliably with a blower go to a larger oil fed vortech unit or a procharger setup...

It has nothing to do with the gear set. Its the tolerances between the impeller and volute. Vortech has a tight 10/12 thousands of an inch clearance. Procharger has a way bigger gap between the impeller and volute. That can be seen by looking at both on the inducer side.

We run ours like that for many reasons.

- a lot of people over spin our stuff (even though its clearly stated not to)
- climate changes when used in military applications.
- different models have different clearances

We have used billet impellers since 1996!
Billet alum has a MUCH different handling then cast.
(more companies have now started to move to billet wheels)

Gap or no Gap, our awesome customers have been making killer power for decades now, and it comes with worry-free operation of climate change. :)

-40 outside? SEND IT!
-130+ in death valley? SEND IT!

"Most" people live in a range from 0-100. So doesn't really affect them too much. (not to mention all gearboxes reach about 200 degrees once up to temp anyway)
