I have a 17m GT PPPremium with 400a. Trying to research the best upgrade path for the audio system. Specifically with respect to replacing the stock amp

Far as I can tell I have 3 options:
  1. Use the iDatalink harness and convert them to RCAs
  2. Buy a custom version of #1 but has shielded balanced inputs.
  3. Use the iDatalink with the DSR1
From what I can gather, 1 and 2 will give me a 4 channel output and #3 can give me as many as 8 channels if that is what I want.
The other main difference is that #3 does all the CAN bus interpretations for you while 1 and two will require a FORScan code.

If I did use 1 or two, what happens with the center chanel? If I use CarPlay navigation or built in Navigation do I get the same feature? Aka does it automatically attenuate the music while navigation directions are issued? And does the voice navigation go to the center chanel or across all speakers?

And I am curious just how many people retain the center chanel when doing an upgrade.

Finally, if you did go the DSR1 route, what was your experience with it? How hard is it to switch presets?

I did like a few others and built a custom breakout box with factory connections that takes place of the amp and has RCA’s to connect to my two after market amps, a real 12v remote turn on, and connections to connect to the factory speaker wiring for my front stage. I contemplated the routes you’re pondering, but decided I’d rather do it myself like I’ve done with all of the other mods on the car. If you’re comfortable soldering and have tools, easy to do.

Center channel is not currently hooked up on mine, and is not missed in the least, and normal voice command items are still played through speakers.

Not sure if you're still looking for responses, but I just did an upgrade using the PAC Amppro. Has a T harness so you're not cutting wires, and allows you to retain or ditch the factory amp. DSR1 requires the amp to be replaced entirely. DSR1 also has pretty poor reviews for reliability.

The PAC unit doesn't do DSP but I'm still glad I went that route.
