Any idea what the part number is? Looks like the Outerwears website is DOA as well as the americanmuscle link
Appears AM no longer has them in stock….

You can try the Outerwears link, there’s instructions on their site how to measure, then contact them to see what prefilters they can match for you. Quite a few folks in the GT350, Mach 1 and GT500 sub forums have ordered directly from Outwerwears from a submitted filter size.
https://www.outerwears.com/

I think Summit Racing also sells Outerwears pre-filters.

I have the Airraid in mine. I was using a Green Filter to match my car for car shows. I stopped going to car shows though. I prefer dry vs oiled. So much easier to maintain.
How did you like your green filter? Besides having to clean and oil

Why would you want to run a pre filter? The filter is adequate

On the 15-17 heat extractor vent is right over filter. When washing or raining the filter gets wet discolored looks terrible. And @ $80 dollars a pop it’s cheap insurance for filter longevity.

Mustang what is the part number of your Outerwears pre filter? Is it 20-1097?

Sure, the underlying filter may be "adequate", but a pre-filter keeps the filter it's covering much cleaner for longer period of time to change interval. Whether you're running an oiled or non-oiled hi-flow conical filter, the pre-filter keeps the pleats of the underlying filter really clean. Any debris or dust bounces off of the pre-filter.

It was ok. It ended up turning from a bright green to a dull yellowish eventually before switching to the Airraid. I never did re-oil it before chosing to switch to the dry filter.

For $80 you can buy a high performance re-usable air filter. This seems highly redundant and insanely priced for a piece of cloth.
Sorry, the pre-filter was something like $26. I have been using it for the past 7 years, I have a $80 Airraid high performance re-usable air filter under the pre-filter for reasons Cobra -Jet states above.

You're losing power, performance and efficiency.

It's just a fad, it's not needed or necessary.

I agree. It has to be decreasing performance. It's another layer the air has to go through.

Good discussion...

Please post factual info to the claim or before/after multiple track run datasets.

Outerwears as well as other prefilter companies state there is no HP or air flow loss when using such prefilters.

Here's air flow data from another prefilter company:
https://www.freedomairfilters.com/faq.html

Also, the purpose of a prefilter is to block the smallest particulate matter from the main filter. An uncovered conical filter will clog much faster, whether it's a dry filter OR an oiled filter. The prefilter will and does prevent the main underlying filter element from becoming saturated with debris AND at the same time it is deflecting particulate from itself due to its material and design, thus maintaining consistent an unobstructed airflow into the engine.

As seen below in my previously posted image, there is quite an abundance of dust, particulate debris and sand particles not only on the exterior of the Outerwears Pre-filter, but within the airbox itself. Granted aftermarket conical filters are supposed to filter well, but they don't filter "everything" and this debris would have plugged the pleats in a conical filter w/o such prefilter protection.

I highly recommend this inexpensive "mod" to any S550 members who are using either a closed or open CAI system with a conical air filter. This additional layer of protection is 100% worth it.

1) It cuts down on wear/tear and excessive cleaning of the conical filter pleats
2) Increases filter life by preventing clogging of the pleats especially if oiled
