I'm currently running the Mach1 HP wheels with Nitto NT555 G2 front (285/35R19) and NT555 RII rear (305/35R19). The traction isn't enough, and they are heavy, at 64-65 lb.

I love the appearance of the PP2 wheels so I'd like to put together a drag pack with the PP2 appearance. For reference, it appears as though the lightest "skinnies" are around 35 lb using Weld 18x5 wheels and ET Street Rs.

This is what I've come up with so far:
  • RaceStar Recluse:
    • 18x5 front (26 lb) using ET Street 28x6 tires (18 lb) for a total of 44 lb.
    • 17x10.5 (+48mm) rear (30 lb) using ET Street R 305/45R17 (31 lb) for a total of 61 lb.
    • Cheaper than the others but the appearance isn't a great fit and the weights are nothing to brag about.
  • ApexWheels VS-5RS
    • 18x10 front (18.4 lb) using Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 255/40R18 tires (24.7 lb) for a total of 43.1 lb.
    • 18x11 (+52mm) rear (19.2 lb) using ET Street R 305/45R18 (32 lb) for a total of 51.2 lb.
    • Looks great and are light, get a full size front tire, but not a true drag pack due to diameter and width availability in that design. Also pricey.
  • BCForged RD02, ACL51, KL01, KL11, KL51, EH181, RZ02, RZ05, RZ21, RZ25...all start looking the same after a while,
    • Not much indication of weight that I could find, seemingly a little heavier than apex, but 18x8 front is available which allows a lighter 22.2 lb Continental tire.
    • Available with bead lock, but also pricey.
Am I missing any options out there?

Also, I can't find anything definitive about whether the 305/45R18 ET Street R will fit in the rear using a 52mm offset wheel. Anything solid on that would be appreciated.

Style and function I would recommend the Apex. Have you thought about belaks? I believe they are advertised at about 9lbs a wheel

@waulypaul the belak wheels are certainly light but they don’t have the target appearance.

Your car looks great with the apex wheels. I’m guessing that’s 19’s? What offset and tire size?

18x9.5"
19.7lbs

You can cram a 305/45 on there....and they are cheap.

it'd be nice to have a 19x8 up front and 19x10/10.5 in the back but oh well

That’s understandable there and they are 19x11 ET 26/52 square 305/30/19

@robvas those aff7 wheels look great, they’re light, and the price is right….but the sizes and offsets they offer kinda suck. I’m certain the 305/45r18 tire won’t fit with that 35 offset without rubbing the fender. I need more like a 52 offset or more to clear.

FWIW I removed my current wheels today and weighed them.

Front m1hp with 285/35r19 555G2 64.0 lb
Rear m1hp with 305/35r19 555RII 64.6 lb

initial estimate was pretty accurate.

Are you wanting to run the skinnies up front all the time or just at the track? If just at the track, then appearance isn’t so much an issue. Buy a set of the 19x11 SVE SP2’s with some 325’s in the back and a couple temp spare wheels for skinnies up front. Then go back to you M1 setup for the street. Or, unless you’re trying to find every tenth, just get the SP2’s and run the M1’s up front. You can always just drive around the water box.

Couple new things I learned....

The Titan-7 T-S5 have the right look, color, weight, and price. They even have some good dimensions (18x8.5 front and 17x9.5 read) for a drag setup, that allows for a bit light front tire and more proven rear sizes. However, the offsets are just not well suited for the S550 and would wind up tucked in a bit too much.

Secondly, in my quest for lighter 275 width tires, I happened onto Bridgestone Potenzas that were listed on their site under 25 lb. I contacted Tirerack, who actually pulled one off the shelf and weighed it at 28.55 lb. I was really impressed they did this for me. They also said the Continental ContiSportContact2 and Yokahama Advan A052 are about the lightest they have seen, and that the weights listed on their site are what they actually weighed them as, not what the manufacturer states. Those two are right at 26 lb each, while most in this size are over 30.

@Silver Bullitt I'm looking for ideally a drag pack that has the appearance of PP2, or as close as I can get. I ideally want a 17" rear but apparently will have to settle for an 18", and as light of a front setup as possible.

I have the now-discontinued Potenza sports in the front, I like them (275-40/19)

"If I could do it all over again" I would have gotten the 19x9 Forgestar F14 in gloss anthracite, and the F14 Drag in the back, 17x10

Would have been a couple lbs heavier and cost a bit more but at least I could run a 305/45-17 in the back.

I ended up buying 6 of the Aodhans, drag radials on the extra 2 that I run 90% of the time. That way I can switch them around as I want, I guess I could have bought 6 Forgestars...

Received the Apex 18x11 VS-5RS and 305/45R18 ET street R, and they weighed in at 52.6 lb. Most of the difference appears to be in the tire because it's over 33 by itself. Either way, 52.6 is 12 lb less per rear wheel than what I'm currently running at the same width and 1" taller combination.

More to come on the fronts.

So I got a pair of 18x8.5 apex vs-5rs for the front, which appear to be intended for Tesla. The bolt pattern and offset is correct for Mustang but the hub hole is undersized. I bored it to size (don’t try this at home) and paired them with some continental 255/45r18 tires. On the scale this combo is 42.4 lb, which is a 21.6 lb per wheel reduction as compared to my current 64 lb wheels. They’re just a few lb heavier than your typical 18 or 19” front skinny setup, so I’m pretty happy with that.

Found your thread. Any information on boring the wheels to size? I would like to replicate this setup. Looks awesome

I used a ryobi router and a spacer to get the cut radius correct.

If you didn’t insist on satin bronze they make a 19x9 that is similar weight and requires no cutting.

Also, I scoured the Internet for tire weight information. The tire rack weights are, according to them, what they weigh them as, not what the manufacturer claims. Some manufacturers have vast discrepancies. I found that continental makes some very light tires, depending on what model you’re looking at. And, the weights match what tire rack states as well. There are lots of “normal” size high speed rated fronts that are sub 25 lb.
