Hey, I'm late to the game here and thus have not read all the posts, so forgive me if the exact question has already been asked and answered.

An auto is an absolute requirement for me, but it isn't available in the performance option? Did I get that right? How did I miss that in the online, build-a-car conflagrelator at Ford.com? Because I ride the short bus (don't answer that!) ? If not, is there a workaround and failing that, what is the likelihood of the 10-speed being offered in the '18 refresh AND available with the PP?

I don't like that the PP comes only with the 3.73 gear set. I would not have preferred this short a gear and am seriously considering installing a 3.55 set.

For pure street us, it's too short. You can barely crack 60 in second and high 80's in third. A proper sports car needs better range per gear so that you're not constantly shifting. And with the powerful 5L engine and low redline the short gear doesn't compliment the motor well.

You may even want to consider 3.31, going from 3.73 to 3.55 is quite marginal I would imagine.

Only the 50th anni version comes with the PP in auto. All other auto configurations lack the Performance Pack upgrades. If you get an auto you'll need upgrade the performance parts yourself like a lot of us ended up doing.

Yes, I'm considering that as well. From a road-speed-in-gear perspective it's just about right - the 3.31 will just crack 100mph in 3rd which is ideal in my opinion. That's as fast as I ever drive and never needing 4th for spirited driving is a really good thing.

That said, I think a 3.55 with a slightly higher redline might be the best compromise - you still get the punch but with better road speed per gear.

ECO and V8... those words don't go together. An ECO 6 would be interesting in the Mustang.

Careful what you wish for. Next thing you know our choices will be 6, eco 4, and eco 6 and that's it.

Actually a very likley outcome in the not so distant future....

choices will be eco4 or eco6 3.5L.

MAYBE they'll just shrink the V8 and go turbo "eco", just so they can still say they have a V8 when everyone else is 4 or 6 cyl.

I'm not seeing the V8 disappearing anytime soon. Ford has plenty of CAFE credits.
