Looking for feedback on those that have used PP replacement rotors of the multi-piece variety, that have aluminum center hats.

I am seeing quite a few available, anywhere from around $900 up to around $1500 for the front set/pair.

I am looking for the weight savings, but also something that will hold up for medium-heavy duty track use and abuse.

I have been eyeing the Girodisc pieces.

Anyone?

I've seen mostly positive from gyro disk but I have seen a little negative feedback on them. Not much but it's there, wish i could direct you in the direction where this feedback is, but i can't remember what thread.

With that said, i know the most expensive option seems to be AP Racing...i have never heard a single negative thing about them. They seem to be very high quality and are one of the most durable rotors you can get.

Kelly, what do you think of the Baer Eradispeeds? I don't think they have aluminum hats but they offer a significant weight savings.

Baer Eradispeed seem to provide same weight savings as AP, Sock Dusold Designs carries them in slotted only version.

$2000 for the front set, $1400 for the back set. Outside of the budget stated but damn nice. Wish folks made stuff for the stock GT's up front.

Good info Divine.

I looked at those - but I just don't see what the difference in price can possibly be.

Unless the rotor is made of unobtanium. Would love to know what you get additional for the cost, compared to Baer, Wilwood, Girdodisc etc.

I could see if the center hats were made from a stronger alloy, like 7075 instead of 6061.

Maybe someone will chime in that knows more. Or I may call them and just ask why they are $500 more for two rotors.

And here I thought only GM products used unobtanium...

AP Racing is like the end-all be-all of brakes, hence the price. They make some of the best braking systems in the world, the unobtanium here being their reputation.

Rotora is who I usually go with, I don't know if they make stock replacement disks for the Mustang but they probably do since they do for other cars. They've never done me wrong and I've been using them for 15 years now.

Don't get any drilled rotors, they are prone to cracking unless you strictly follow a strict break-in routine (which you should do with any new brakes anyway), you'll notice that most everyone has been moving away from drilled in the past few years anyway.

Yes, I know all about drilled rotors.

And in response to your comment, I am aware of their reputation. But, as a consumer, I need to be informed on more than "we are good" to spend that much more on a simple brake rotor.

When people talk about how much better a company is, hence their price being more, I actually wonder - why is it more then? If a company is better, it will typically allow them to be at the same price or less for most products they offer.

But again, maybe it is the material cost - from using different manufacturing methods, or materials, or both + more.

A quick example.

Our rear control arm bearing kit is substantially more than our competitors. Similar to this situation. But, the reason is because it is much different. It cost much more to make, and features parts and materials that are different than anything of it's kind.

If we make one similar to the lower cost versions, we would be at the same price or likely even less.
