I've done numerous hand calculations and compared to the Ford calculations on several different Fords and they were all about 1 mpg conservative.

I trust the computer.
From what I have found the computer on the 15 is about 1mpg ABOVE actual mpg. It has been consistently .5-1mpg over every time I calcualte by hand.

Drove from MD to FL for New Years. 1400~ mile roundtrip. The absolute best I could get was 26.0 mpg after an hour driving @55 on cruise control. Talk about a boring ride. I caved in after that and bumped the speed up since speed limit is much higher on I95, mpg went down from that point and recorded numbers to what I'd expected. Snapshot of average mpg from MD to FL and FL to MD below.

Other info: GT w/PP all miles on 93 octane. Trip was a little longer from MD to FL because the weather sucked and a huge accident (complete stop) around Emporia, VA.

If you have any questions or like additional info, please PM me. Thanks!

The problem with hand calculations is filling the car with fuel. The computer is actually more accurate because it is taking calculations based on fuel burned. Whether the number displayed is true is up for discussion. A FloScan system would be an accurate measurement as well.

Hand calculating fuel from pump fill ups with nozzles that click off at where they are set and how much you stuff in the tank that particular time very sketchy. A scale of the car before and after fill ups and then a volume measurement based on SG of fuel used at the nozzle would be more accurate.

If you are burning actual gasoline like you can in NE vs. this Gov. Subsidized diluted fuel I am forced to buy in MA, mileage will differ.

Hand calculated vs computer if it's only off by less than a MPG I say you are pretty good at filling your car exactly the same.

I get gas from the same pump every time. Can't be more than a few ounces of difference at the auto cut off. My BMW was the same way, car computer always read better mpg.

Just crossed 1,000 miles last night, so the break-in period is over. Here's my fuel usage so far:

Tank 1: 105 miles, 7.1 gallons, 14.8 mpg
Tank 2: 173 miles, 11.7 gallons, 14.8 mpg
Tank 3: 206 miles, 13.3 gallons, 15.5 mpg
Tank 4: 179 miles, 11.1 gallons, 16.1 mpg
Tank 5: 202 miles, 11.3 gallons, 17.9 mpg
Tank 6: 118 miles, 9.5 gallons, 12.4 mpg (this tank was almost solely city miles... I don't think I got it above 30 mph the entire tank, and there was a lot of stop-and-go traffic and idling).

Winter mix will also significantly affect mpg.... mine has dropped this tank from 19 to roughly 16mpg. If you use your trip mileage and divide that by the amount of fuel you fill, you will see there is a bit of a difference. Off by a couple from the trip computers avg mpg

Seabee, do you ever get on the highway? I know 35 is bad but put some highway on that badboy.

Lately only 18 miles when going to work... the avg does go up but not enough to make a difference.... Even my truck has been sucking lately on mpg... low 13s.... Have not been driving it much distances lately because of weather and temps but drove it today.... some spirited driving or I should say aggressive driving to get away from the clowns on the road.... Especially trucks... damn people can't stay in their lanes on 35..... Always near miss... damn semi nearly took me out going south in Lewisville....ugh

I know yesterday, I filled up the tank and immediately got on the highway, did straight-shot highway driving for about 50 miles. MPG gauge was up to 26.1. Drove around the block three or four times looking for a parking spot, idled it for about ten minutes making a phone call, then drove in to work today (about 5 or 6 miles; all heavy traffic and about 50 traffic lights total, most of which were green -- 5-6 mile drive takes about a half-hour). When I parked in the parking garage, the mpg gauge was down to 20.9 mpg. Idling and traffic REALLY kill mileage in this car.

Yes it does!!! Getting bold on take offs does no justice either I've only gotten mine up to 22 so far hwy and farm roads mixed... driving to the base is 50 miles straight shot from my house so I an sure it will be better... Especially with a fresh tank.... going to see if there is a difference from Kroger fuel than exxon though is a difference in $ really should not make that much difference

I don't know about everyone else but it only took $22 to fill up yesterday. I can care less about mileage. (smoke em if you got em) I am going to enjoy this while I can.
