Say one purchases a base model of any engine size and gets the basic audio system. Is it possible to upgrade that with the Shaker Pro Audio system from the Mustang premium trims?

Does Ford Motor Company or Ford dealerships offer that Shaker audio upgrade after vehicle purchase?

I don't think Ford offers this, but it *may* be possible if you can get all of the hardware, including the MFT screen, etc. to do it yourself.

Your plan would be like upgrading from McDonald's to Wendy's. I think it would be a lot easier and cheaper to just swap in high quality audio components (Ruth's Chris) into the stock 6-speaker setup. The Shaker systems sound pretty good, but they are nowhere near the quality you can get from Alpine, JBL, Infinity, etc.

That would be a HORRIBLE idea - you'd be getting a 'meh'-at-best audio system for full list price, I"m sure it'd be over 2k. 1k in a base can get you some nice audio goodies, and 2k could get you a studio on wheels. The aftermarket is your friend, and any aftermarket head unit beats the space shuttle number buttons.

I listened to my 12 speaker Shaker system today for the first time one my first drive to get the full experience (Back in the Saddle by Aerosmith). I was disappointed. I had to put my phone volume on full, the radio volume on full and move the positions of the bass mid and treble all the way up. only then did it compare to 75% of the audio system I thought I was getting for the money I paid.
yes... the aftermarket is your friend.

Bump - I've got the 9 speaker premium system and it is about a 5/10. Any more concrete info about upgrades yet?

I'm starting to wonder if upgrading the amp might be a more cost-effective upgrade. The Shaker Pro system feels really under-powered to me.

Normally, each new generation is better than the last. Thanks for letting me know the new Pro audio option isn't worth the checkmark.

I know the '05-'09 Shaker500 was loud enough to announce your arrival. It was probably the woofers installed in the doors. I wonder if the new base speakers can handle more.

Is it a matter of a weak factory amplifier or do the speakers have to go, too?

Big difference money-wise.

Start with an amp and new high quality sub and go from there. If that isn't enough, get out your wallet and go for new amp(s), speakers, dloc, etc, etc.

Stoli, do you know where the factory amp is for the 9/12 speaker systems? I am wondering if that may be easy to replace with a better one.

Im just doing it right from the beginning. I knew the 9 and 12 spk systems werent worth it so i got the base and i am replacing everything but the stock headunit. I dont even think im going to use the stock wiring.

I may be mistaken but I think you have to tap in after the oem amp to maintain full head unit functionality.

This is correct, and the factory amp is located under the driver's side kick panel in case anyone was wondering. You will notice there are 3 wire harnesses plugged into it. One has input control signals with very tiny wires, and the other 2 are speaker outputs with decently thick speaker wires, along with a remote and the power/ground wires.

I just finished installing a JBL MS-8 yesterday by using the output from the factory amp to drive the MS-8 input, then routed the MS-8 output back to the wires going to the speakers. I have full functionality with MFT/Sync. from everything I've tested by doing it this way. The active noise cancellation(ecoboost only) is a little more noticeable, so I think I'll need to pull the rear mic. to disable it. Something to keep in mind for ecoboost owners.

Hope that helps :)
