The best way is to not care what others do with their money/car. Unless you are buying one 2nd hand, in which case you should run the VIN/check the window sticker either way :cheers:

Perhaps I was not clear in the OP. I have no problem with people using R parts on their cars. I also have no issue with R stripes. My problem is solely around badgeing a non R with an R badge. Who is the owner trying to convince they have an R? Themselves? Unlikely. In my opinion they are trying to pass their car off as an R to others. If you try and pass it off as an R, who is to say they won't try and sell it as an R? I just don't see any point to adding R badgeing besides deception.

I actually thought of going with the R badges, only for the aesthetics of matching the overall scheme of my car...hints of red here and there, and not to play it off as an R. In the end, I didn't want to offend others or myself. I think it should be unique to the R, though I don't mind if others put them on theirs. It's really Ford's fault for not putting R on the badge and elsewhere on the car :ford:

I don't really care either way, if they want to do it, so be it, still their car/money and has zero impact on me. The BMW M and AMG guys have been dealing with this for decades. All the real enthusiasts know when its the real deal or when someone is faking the funk. What do they stand to gain from it? Who knows, but not my concern either way

In some respects it's the principle too. I was in the Army during the time they adopted black berets for all troops. They had traditionally been reserved for Rangers whom I have the greatest respect for. I thought it suck to give everyone the beret after all the Rangers did to earn it. The Rangers ended up adapting the tan beret, which actually looks pretty cool, but for the principle of what Ranger went through, it sucked. My same feelings concerning the badges. I didn't rightfully "earn" it, I'm not putting it on. Others? To each their own.

I lucked out never having to wear it. I was on the trail when the policy changed, then was in "special" units where I wore civilian clothes until I retired. Even out-processed in a suit

I really like the red badges over the chrome ones (on my Race Red) but its not worth it to switch over and have everyone think its an R. I will be getting the red calipers though.

It's gotten so bad at BMW that they started throwing M badges on non-M cars at the factory.... i saw a 7 series at the auto show in Detroit with an M badge on the front quarter panel. I wish I had of taken a picture of it, from a design perspective it looked so stupid and out of place.

I did it to mine. Along with all the R aero, suspension and weight reduction etc. But I tell people all the time it is not a real R when they ask me so.
