Meh... i don't care, i know i don't have an R but i also don't care if people put on GT350 parts on their base GT's... the only time i'd have a problem is if they were lying directly to people and telling them that their car is something its not, at that point i think its dishonest
Great minds think alike.

Do you think that the wrong seats were installed in that R at the factory? I mean to me, it looks like it ticks all of the other boxes. Wheels, red calipers, spoiler...etc, etc... Someone spent a lot of cash to make that look like an R.

Personally, use the parts, but keep it a GT if it is a GT and a regular GT350 if that is what it is and it isn't an R. Customizing is awesome, but I don't get the rebadging something as what it is not. I love the look of the GT350 badge, so I bought the coyote version.

No matte black stripes though. And if im not mistaken, the opening behind the grill is the GT350 size, and not the slightly smaller GT350R opening (which also has a different outline...

If you look closely, the aero bits are actually CF, not factory parts. Either way its a nice looking car, but if the dealer was trying to pass it off as an R i have a big problem with that.

Its funny you bring this up because I was recently contacted by a local dealer that I had inquired about allocations with when I was first looking into buying a 350. They told me that they had a slightly used R and asked if I was interested. I had already ordered mine but was curious anyway since it was local so I had them send me pics (attached). The first thing I noticed was the seats and replied to the salesman and told him that it wasn't an R. He never responded back. Flash forward a few weeks and I see the car at a local car show. My first thought was "I wonder if the owner thought it was an R when he bought it", lol. They were selling it for $68,995 reduced to $64,900 so I feel like they were hoping to find a buyer that thought it was an R, very shady.
That car sure has a lot of the R's CF pieces for it not to be one...seats notwithstanding. I can't tell what wheels it has but, $65k might not be that bad a deal if it's not an R.

The only thing CF on the factory R is the rims (and i guess that radiator bracket is a CF composite but the regular 350 has that too), the aero CF bits on this car are just the Carbon2Carbon aftermarket pieces i'm guessing.

Those aren't the factory CF wheels.

See? I do have a GT350 and couldn't tell you what an R looks like. I thought it did have more CF as part of its weight reduction. :frusty:I guess then, in regards to the poll, I really don't care! By the way, how do you like my stripes and calipers? Too close?:headbonk:

I agree with you. My thought is, its not an R, it'll never be an R, so why try to make it one. Personally, I prefer some things about the non-R over than the R...specifically the track-pack spoiler, I think it looks/flows better with the lines of the car than the R spoiler. Just my opinion though, to each his own. I respect all takes at personalizing the car to you, and I get adding a few bits here and there from an R that you like. But to go at it with the goal of trying to fool others into thinking its an R is just a waste of an already great car...it kind of brings the car down IMO.

Holy smokes! I think I know the car you are talking about. I, too, saw it while I was at a car show in Houston...maybe October of last year. The car wasn't entered, but drove by the show. At a distance, I thought it was an R, but I'm almost certain is the same car you have pictured here. Someone put A LOT of effort and money into making it look like an R.

BTW - that was the only other R I've seen out in the wild...or, um, R-ish ;)

YIKES - That's where I bought my... presumably... real R from! That's disappointing.

I wonder if the dealership was dumb enough to buy it without checking to make sure that it wasn't an R. I had a 2-door blazer back in 1998 that I installed a 2" lift on wider offset wheels and fender flares. The dealership thought it was a ZR2 blazer and gave be 2K more on trade for it because of that... They called me about two weeks later wanted to get their difference back. I told them no dice. I never heard from them again on the subject.

I think we need to respect the mods that people choose. I mean, the "R" badge I put on my Lexus made it at least 1.5 seconds quicker to 60!

The best way to tell if it is an authentic R is to see the VIN

If it starts 1FAT.......then its the real thing

1FA6.......not so much...............

Who cares? I never really understood why car enthusiasts spend their time obsessing over what someone else is doing with their car. Sitting behind a screen or at a car show personally offended at the travesty of mixing and matching parts. Acting Holy-er than thou because you wouldn't dare put a badge or part on your car that didn't belong seems a tad overboard.

Just sit back and enjoy watching others modify their cars. If you personally want to keep your car all stock because that makes you feel like an honest and upstanding person of high moral character then good for you. 10 years ago I hated seeing 03 cobra bumpers on every new edge. But then I realized there is so much more to Motorsport, and customization is what drives this hobby.

Think about it. It's a car. That's all it is.
