^^^ He has a 2016, so no DI.

Sounds like rod knock to me ... the rhythm is too constant to be BBQ tick.

pony1 ... what's it sound like revved up some or driving around under loads?

It's a 2016, so it shouldn't have a DI at all.

My 2019 GT does a similar sound:

It's really loud, sometimes you can also here it inside the car. When the engine is fully warmed up the sound disappears. Maybe it really is the DI in my case, but what bothers me is that I never heard that sound on another mustang. Or do you think it is piston slap? My car also has the 2k rattle...
What's yours sound like down low behind the front tires?

I listened to the video and didn't realize this was about a 2016.

Thanks for your replies guys ...

Yes, 2016 GT. Here is another video with a few revs. The knocking seemed to get faster I thought but there was other mechanical noise competing ..

It mostly makes the noise when warm, not usually when cold.

You can also hear in cabin at low speeds

That sounds pretty bad, really need to have the dealer check it out IMO.

Thanks GT Pony. That’s my conclusion too, unfortunately. Will advise what the dealer thinks.
That's exactly the noise my 2016 made. The guy who checked me in said he heard it very well. Then the service advisor and the tech said they heard nothing and they weren't going to investigate. Got rid of the car in a couple of weeks after.
