Found some interesting reading. Keeping in mind that Ford says it's normal....normal can mean anything, IMO. Just saying it's normal doesn't mean it's not causing damage or will not wear the engine out faster.

Ford has replaced engines for this previously:

PS - the good news is that there isn't any real evidence that this has caused a significant number of real world failures.

I don't think I'll ever hit 8k rpms on public roads, especially here in Florida. The car is so quick and everyone here has the eventual no signal lane change mentality.

I'll probably keep it closer to home. Trying not to put too many street miles on these cup 2s before I get to burn them up on the track next month ;)
What track are you headed to?

Chin Motorsports - Sebring (DEC 10-11). I haven't signed up yet so hopefully there's some space once my PTO clears.

Just checked - novice class is full for Saturday, which is the day I'd like to go... I jumped on the waiting list.

Pretty sure I have it, but voted for the third option. Definitely have a slight rattle between 2000 and 3000 RPM. Goes away with heavier throttle. It's always there for me, even when warm, but it's not terribly loud so I don't find it too distracting.

I also have a vibration at 1900 RPM, which I find much more annoying than the noise.

I've been trying to forget about it, but i'm always reminded whenever i'm driving the car especially when cold, and i hate it.

All of my friends ( 3 ), all have it as well.
You only have 3 friends? :clap2: just kidding go habs!

After reading this thread, I feel fortunate not to have it. Oil consumption has been almost negligible in 3200 miles. I thrash the car every chance I get, hitting red line every time I take it out.

I'd worry more about the OPG issue which has been a real problem for a few owners, but hey, that's just me:cheers:[/QUOTE]

I definitely concur Mike.

Well there's no way to do a poll to determine what is different about a car that might have an oil pump failure...so....

You might feel differently if you thought yours had piston slap but others told you that theirs were fine. :ninja:

I have no doubt that you have piston slap. My point was why are folks worried about this? Piston slap is normal in many engine designs. Even some engines known for piston slap there were always owners saying they did not have it.

Piston slap does not mean you have an engine issue. I suggest getting an oil test done if you're really worried about engine problems. For 28 bucks, it might help ease your mind.

I understand. I'm just giving this some extra scrutiny as it's not a SUV engine, it's supposed to be a hand built, precision racing engine (maybe a little strong worded) :) so the question that I'm asking is why...or what is different between and engine that does and one that doesn't? If they all did it, it would actually make more sense to me.

I'll let you know next time I'm in Tampa and see if you want to meet up. Me and my fiance hit International Plaza frequently.
