Like stated better to be prepared and not need it then need it and not have it.

I think this is the logic most people that carry have that others don’t understand. Not everyone is a trigger happy individual itching for a fight.

it'd say the ones jones'in for a shoot-out are well south of 1%. The guys I know who carry are deadly serious about their craft and their responsibility to the broader public.

Absolutely. Regardless of the noisy few who act like they’re John Wick, the rest of us hope to NEVER have to use our weapon in self defense. But, as we say in the military, “hope” is not a tactic. Only those who train like they fight can expect to fight like they train.

Indeed. Deciding to carry a weapon for defense imparts a tremendous amount of responsibility. We not only have a duty to protect ourselves but others as well since we are responsible for every bullet that leaves the barrel.

Exactly, it is a mindset that is not to be taken lightly or for granted.

I got my Cpl after I had a gun pointed at my head in a liquor store. However, before it even came in the mail I realized that having a gun in that situation would not have changed anything because I was still best off just walking away like I did. Based on that I don’t routinely carry but I will if I’m meeting someone alone off Craigslist etc. most often I use my Cpl to carry hiking in the woods where I have drawn it on a rabid coyote and had it at the ready during a black bear encounter.

unfortunately we do have a lot of Rambo’s that think they’re going to smack someone else’s gun away and pull their gun. Never happening unless youre ex special forces or the like. That’s called unnecessary risk and escalation. These are the same people that shoot at the range once per year and then swing their gun around every day. If you’re not shooting a handgun once per month you have no business carrying imo. It’s a perishable skill.

I've been carrying firearms for over 30 years now, wow am I that old, and have been around rifle ranges all my life.

Where are all these Rambo's you speak of? Movies?

well we can start with the guy who pulled a gun on my head because he thought I was an undercover cop, or the guy who thought it was a wise idea to fire a warning shot into the air in an Applebees parking lot to stop a fight while we were walking in to eat, or even my fiancés friend’s husband who thinks it’s cool when his gun prints. It’s a mentality thing of “I have a gun and I’m looking for a reason to use it”

I think you took the comment a little too literally, no nobody is walking around with a full auto AR ready to do business. lol.

Real world experience has proven otherwise.
It's just luck. Sure, you may catch a novice off guard, but you just as well may catch a bullet in the neck from a lucky flinch shot too.

I mean maybe you're professionally trained or have military experience or something but most people are too jacked up on adrenaline to be proficient with the whole drawing process, let alone aiming and getting the drop on someone who already has the upper hand. Not impossible by any means, I just don't recommend it lol

How do you guys carry your full size pistol in your car?
Try a M&P Shield, single stack. I can fit it between my hip and seat belt well hidden. Sometimes I have it in the door storage space with a piece of paper in front of it to hide it.

Many years carried a Sig P220. Shot is so much, developed frame cracks. SIG did replace the frame. Age caught up with me and the short sight radius was tough on my eyes. Now use a P226. Quick, good trigger and the Double action all allow for fast target acquisition and first shot. I practice all the time with both rifle and handguns.

As said earlier, don't advertise to anyone when I carry. This applies on person or in the car. I am very much aware that age has slowed reflexes so always look for an out to de-escalate.

Can't tell you how many times approached for advice. Want to buy a handgun for protection. What I tell them is simple. You buy one, you need to know how to safely handle and shoot. Requires a lot of range time. If you get past this, then think about what happens when someone enters your home intent on harming you. Are you prepared to shoot and consequences that come after? Also, with this - know the gun laws in your state and how they apply to home or personal defense situations. In the end, there is never a second place. Strike first with deadly accuracy. It now becomes your story only. Brutal fact but true.
