go sit in your car with your seatbelt on and tell me how convenient it is to draw your weapon - you can't.
inner-leg (near the knee) holster?

Then again, I'll just have to tell the crim to hold on a sec while I hike up my skirt.

Short of shoulder rig in plain view, or something attached to the front of the seat between the legs, or some kydex mounted to the console on the passenger side, I don't see a good solution. Except maybe running the crim over.

Fortunately, I live in a free state that allows open carry, permitless concealed carry (CCP is only for traveling out of state) and carrying into a business that prohibits weapons is not a criminal offense in that LEOs can only ask you to leave the business or if they or the business really want to be jerks you can be trespassed from property. Only federal and state court/municipal building are off limits for concealed carry. So, I always have mine on me except if going for a medical procedure where I would have to remove the weapon from clothes.

My state also does not require you to inform LEO that you have a weapon on your person, but I keep my CCP and license together in my wallet so the LEO will be given both at the same time.

I also use the glove box for safe storage with out of sight hopefully keeping a thief from targeting my car, have not had an issue in 50 years of doing so, but also avoid big cities and high crime states.

Are you talking about open carry? Personally there's no point to open carry other than advertising that you're armed. No sense freaking out the citizens.

Personally, I don't open carry since I chose not to advertise that I am armed but there are plenty people that do, and nobody is freaked out. If the "citizens" are freaked out they are free to move to a state that prohibits freedom.

Open carry means just that, I am free to carry whatever firearm I choose to in public without LE stopping me.

actually disagree. They need to be jolted out of their gun-ignorance. For pete's sake we used to have 22LR in our school lockers!
Agree, the crooks need to see a show of strength in numbers and realize we will not be lambs for the slaughter.

Gonna share a tactical approach for you guys…….Keep a money clip with a wad of $1 bills covered maybe with a $10 on the outside.
You get a perp trying to rob you, throw the wad of bills in one direction and either defend your position or GTH outta there. The safest gunfight is the one that never happens. :like:
Spent just a little time garbage collecting for free. :like:
I am usually armed but also have a decoy wallet to throw at the perp while running away. It's a Chums slim wallet that has a couple of expired credit cards from my deceased dad and shows a folded fifty dollar folded bill over a wad of three other bills ($1 but you can't tell what denomination under the wad). The fifty is cut to 1/4 length which makes it useless while still looking very real on a thrown wallet on the ground (I cashed the other 3/4 at the bank for a complete bill). If I ever need to use it, I'll get a chuckle thinking about it. If it escalates anyway then the perp will have a very bad day on the receiving end of a .45.

Its a tight space for sure, not a lot of options. I considered a right handed holster, attached with the belt clip to the cargo tray/trash can? whatever in the drivers door. Im left handed so that would be an easy grab for me. Or maybe something attached to the headliner/roof kind of in front of the map lights.

A Taser to the eyeball is probably a better option anyway in a car jacking situation. I certainly don't want yucky bits all over my Katzkin leather

Bond Arms makes a cross draw holster for there derringers especially for drivers defending against car jackers. It’s pretty convenient. When you get out just pull your shirt down.

That was then. This is now. There's enough pressure to take guns away without stirring the pot.

Lot of people open carry here in my town no one even raises an eyebrow about it. There are some places you can't.

On my body…always. A weapon out of immediate reach is a useless tool.

Think of it this way, if you’re at a red light minding your business and someone points a gun at your head telling you to get out, do you think they’re gonna wait for you to find your weapon and engage the threat? Or would you rather have the opportunity to create space and still have your weapon on you should you need to engage?

Here’s an excellent video of some prior Navy Seals going through drawing and shooting drills based on the weapon storage location. When your life is at stake every second matters!

Absolutely.

There's car guys with guns and gun guys with cars. I was a gun guy before a car guy. To answer the OP's original question the best place in a car to have a pistol or revolver is where you feel most comfortable with it. It's a personal decision and asking that question on an internet forum has lead to, well let's call a spade a spade ....this has turned into a shit show of opinions and answers. Probably the best thing for the OP to do is go to : https://www.youtube.com/@gowilsoncombat and get educated on being a responsible gun owner/carrier and the legalities of carrying a loaded firearm in an automobile in ones specific state. I'm assuming the OP knows an unloaded firearm is like having tits on a bull. Personally I carry OWB with a striker fire pistol, condition "0" with a 15 round magazine that I range practice with on a regular basis. Just my personal choice and one I feel most comfortable with. Again, carry where you feel most comfortable with your training and experience level you feel most responsible with yet best able to defend yourself in a bad situation.

I have a fragmentation grenade I brought back from Vietnam with no filler or fuse that I carry around my neck on a piece of rope. I've had zero problems so far. 😁
