Looking at 2 different 275/40-19s, Michelin 21747 vs 66344. Both seem to have identical specs other than weight. The 66344 is about 2.5lbs lighter than the other but costs $20 more.
Anyone have details on the differences? Is one the OEM spec for the PP1?

Thanks!

21747 appears to be the Ford/Lincoln OE spec per Discount Tire. 66344 has an MO1 designation, not sure what that is, might be Michelin’s general spec?

The MO1 designation signifies it as a Mercedes OE fitment that is also EV compatible.

Don't some EV tires have a foam liner for sound deadening that makes them a little heavier?

Compare the tire specs carefully between the two. I believe the Mercedes tire will have a narrower section width compared to the 'standard' tire, even given a same numerical tire size.

I asked Michelin:
Thank you for your question concerning the difference between the Pilot Sport 4 S 255/40ZR19/XL ASY 100(Y) MSPN 12150 and the Pilot Sport 4 S 255/40ZR19/XL FOR ASY 100(Y) MSPN 78074.

MSPN 78074 is original equipment (OE) on a Ford Mustang GT Premium and modified to meet the vehicle manufacturer's specifications while MSPN 12150 is our stock specification for that size.

The primary difference is that MSPN 78074 is a half pound lighter and its original tread depth (OTD) is 8.5/32nds" compared to MSPN 12150's OTD of 9/32nds". Both tires come with a 30,000 mile
Limited Mileage Warranty* as part of the Standard Limited Warranty that covers defects in workmanship and materials for 6 years from the date of purchase or for the life of the usable tread, whichever occurs first. You can use either MSPN for your Mustang but you should not mix them.

I prefer to count in 256th myself, so 0.5/32 means 4/256. And that’s 0.4 mm.

Now we can intuitively relate between the 2 systems.
