I stayed long enough just to get it running.

I primed the fuel pump 3-4 times to get some pressure in the system. Pressed the button, and presto; fired up as quickly as stock and idled perfectly clean.

Only ran it for about 30 seconds though since the coolant is just half full for the moment. I set the display to show AF and it was in the mid 14's when I turned it off. I also gave it a couple quick 3000rpm or so throttle stabs. Everything seems good.

Disconnecting the battery and headed home for the evening... GF is already pissed at me cause she had to put her dog down today and its 1130pm and I am just leaving work.

Tomorrow I will button it all up and take it for a ride.

If I had to have just 1, and leave it bone stock - well, that would be terrible. I am not sure which I would choose. My Z is a base model with sport package, so it has all the sports upgrades but crap stereo, no nav, lame seats, cloth. Interior technology wise, the mustang kills my Z, but I have never driven a fully loaded 370z to compare.
I can make that comparison. My wife has a loaded 14 370z Touring with Sport Package and Nav. We bought it with every option. My S550 is loaded except for adaptive cruise. Hands down everybody in my family would take the Mustang over the 370z.

Im happy to see someone interested in the comparison. Youre right, the 370z is unfortunately a bit under-powered even though its current V6 engine does sort lead the way as far as all-motor 6 cylinders go... its still just not enough for most people to happy with when its in a dedicated sports car. I believe the record bone stock 1/4 mile is a 12.9 though, so its not terrible, though mid 13's are what is to really be expected from the car stock.

Guys get them up to 340-350rwhp with basic bolt ons, and one guy recently made it to 375rwhp with exhaust cams and custom intake manifold.

Power to weight, it will be a close match up between my Z and the mustang. The Mustang I can already tell will pull much harder below 60 due to the IRS design. The 370z IRS cambers too aggressively, and the car is difficult to get moving at all below 60mph.

On the top end, the 370z is a monster and pulls cars that make significantly more HP. I expect that the Mustang is going to make the better stop-light and 1/4 mile car, but not have the top end pull of the Z.

We shall see!

My largest complaint with the Mustang interior is how high the recaro seats sit. I dont know if the normal seats are lower or not, but at least in these Recaros I am sitting up way taller than any other car I have owned!
Yeah I'm a big believer that the driving experience matters more than the raw performance numbers, and a 370z at 350 wrhp would certainly be fun to drive given the weight and balance.

They'll be very different design approaches, so my guess is they'll be better at different things, but nonetheless I can't wait for the real life comparison (I really couldn't care less about 1/4 mile times lol).

About to take this Mustang for a ride.

I will report back tonight. I dont know yet if I will beat on it at all or not. I often like to drive a car for a day and constantly pull over checking on things and looking for rubbing or things coming loose etc. We will see how comfortable I feel with it.

Worst case scenario, I dont beat the living **** out of the car until Monday or Tuesday :)

Put about 150 miles on it. After 50 or so I started flooring it all over the place. Definitely faster than it was 2 weeks ago. first gear is all spin. 2nd gear will go as long as you slowly press the throttle in, not reaching the floor until almost redline. 3rd gear is great although if not pointed totally straight it lights them up again. I'm still on stock rubber though.

EDIT 4/30/15: PLEASE NOTE this was an old/early tune file I was running. I want to be clear that the newer tune has resolved this. I will keep the post otherwise available, but as of now these minor issues no longer exist.

The tune is pretty good. It has 2 quirks that I notice... Pretty livable but they exist. It doesn't much care for hot starts. It still starts, but it struggles for a few revolutions of the crank. Cold starts are perfect. The other thing is the accel fuel... When you go from decel to 1-3% throttle it blips low 11s AF for a moment, making a very faint pop and jerk.

The AF looks good under full throttle. I can't see what the timing is doing because my basic obd2 tool doesn't get usable data refresh rate under full throttle for some reason.

Oh and it idles at 750 now. Not sure if it's supposed to or if I might have a small intake manifold vacuum leak. I will poke around.

One thing I like about this car is that you can really keep traction control on and it doesn't kill all power like my nissans at the slightest hint if any slip at all. It's a nuisance with nissan and has to be shut off no questions asked for any screwing around at all. It's not so invasive in the mustang.

Cruising it all day today. Warmer out now so it hooks better. Car hauls ass and runs great for the most part. This is fast enough that hardly anything is going to pull away in the real world. Can't wait to put in the headers and e85

Do you plan to reach out to Whipple to see what's up with the tune? Do you plan on dynoing it as-is now? Or after headers & e85? Who will tune it then? What's the desired end goal (or do you have one?)

Congrats on getting it together!

Thanks!

I'm gonna call my buddy with a dyno and see what's going on this week. Hes got a lot of activity going on lately with tuners coming into town and doing group tuning sessions and what not, but I might be able to squeeze it in there this week.

I will definitely dyno it when it's all done with the e85 etc, and if it's not too much trouble I will get it on there as it sits now.

My current plan for the e85 tune is to use Lund. That said, just before taking the step, I will check in with Whipple and see if they are in a position to work with me on it or if they would rather pass on it for the time being. I'll give them dibs on it if they care to mess with it.

The idle sound is rather pleasant for a SC. It doesn't really seem to put out much if any unpleasant racket. Shutting the hood blocks out most of what you could hear. I don't think the average joe is going to notice anything at a stop light.. But if there isn't much background noise, anyone that knows their automotive sounds is going to notice a suspicious whirl.

You can drive it soft enough to almost hide the sounds, but again anyone that knows exactly what they are hearing is going to get enough to raise an eyebrow. When you want to be obvious, you can give it just the right amount of throttle/load to get the whine without having to show them all you've got or making your exhaust offend every normal person within a mile.

Thanks man for the great review. Very helpful.

Have you ever driven a TT 5.0?.Not sure if it was you but I seem to remember a forum member had come from turbos to Whipple(or was it the TVS)
If you have(or any body else especially on an auto), how does it compare?

I am trying to decide whether I do the Whipple or a TT on my auto.

I have driven non-mustang auto/V6/inline 6's with twin scroll turbos-My wife's Explorer sport and My daily driven M235 with a BMS tune-and I love them. The available torque from as low as 1500 rpm make them fun on the street even more so than my 12 with a SC that makes over 600 lb./ft. at 3000 rpm.

I assume the bigger twin turbos(smallest I have seen is 55 mm on Hellion. and On3 will also have that option)on a V8 mustang may not give me the same feeling but I am hoping close.

Why not just go for torque on the auto like Mercedes did with the new C63 AMG? Small displacement v8 that revs quickly paired with 2 very quickly spooling turbos = the ultimate daily driver - now just imagine that feeling with the Coyote instead lol.

Just figured it would be a nice contrast for your current setup, which is obviously going to shred anything in a straight line.

Thanks man. Now to see if they will let me "test" drive the AMG.lol

I really do think I may end up with two TT 2015's,one auto and one manual .
To be honest when I had the old style 2.9 whipple on my 12,I was not that impressed with the torque on the street(as compared to the TVS).The new design just looks sooo nice.

I had planned on a GT350 but as much as it looks and sounds killer(I am not sure abut the exhaust note-my old GT500 sounded nicer),I need FI and an auto for the drag strip.
I will wait and see what Ford comes up with the next GT500.I will probably have to sell/trade the manual then .......but until then I will have my "own" Imagined GT500(stripe and all) as well an auto version.

No major update but I have put over 900 miles on the car this week, and everything is great.

I think that in a couple days it's time to start the fuel system work and switch to e85.

What does your e85 setup consist of? I think it may be the next thing I do.

I will probably build something custom, but I have to see. I am going to open up the fuel pump module this weekend I think and see what I can get away with. Fuel system stuff is sort of a specialty of mine, so I will be seeing what I can do myself before I spend much money on it.
