Just to clarify. The piece that goes in/on your phone case is just a metal plate. The magnet is part of the car mount.

Yes, the thin metal plate is magnetic and sticks to the mount's magnetic surface. It is incredibly sturdy, hooks right up.

The one I have certainly is not magnetic and all of their product details call it a "metal plate".

Thanks for the tip on the Scosche, I bought the type that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It keeps the phone like 2" to the right of the shifter. It has a USB power output so you can use it to charge if needed.

Look really nice and well thought out BUT..
What happens when CarPlay and Android whatever are available?
Then having the phone up front and readable isn't necessary anymore, do you still plan on having it sit so prominently in view?

I think I will wait until that time because I suspect that these products will not be as valuable once you can use Sync3 to access the phones capabilities. That isn't an option for many of you who are on the road in DDs and for work but for a retired guy like me it's not an immediate need. They do look nice for a gadget guy though.

It's so insanely hot here in South Carolina in the summers that I figured it a better choice than a vertically mounted piece of 3M tape.

Only $23 but...time will tell.

One thing I also realized is my wireless charger was not responding when laying the phone down, so I had to move the metal plate to a lower position to allow it a direct shot to the battery on my Samsung Galaxy S7.

I was honestly just sick of my phone knocking around inside the cup holders, or sitting half way out of the little tray area in front of the shifter.

I've had it for 3 years or so with the S3, Note 3, 5S, S5, S6E+ and now iphone 7. I might get the new one since it absorbs shock since I like to use the phone to record video when driving. I tried it with the new iPhone 7 and is very jittery. The S6 wasn't nearly as bad. I guess it has to do with the way it processes the camera.
