I noticed something strange the other day when plugging my phone in to the car after work and wondering if anyone else has had it happen. The phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 4) cycles between charging and not charging at regular intervals. I plug it in to the USB port under the climate controls. Taking a few more notes, I think it may be heat related (I'm in Texas), but I'm not sure. I plug the phone in on my way to work in the morning and it stays charging. The cable is also fine (it's the same stock Samsung cable that I use indoors). It only happens when I plug in after work. Does the car has something to limit output on the USB or is this a Samsung thing?

If your phone gets too hot it will stop charging to protect the battery.

Coaster, I wish that were it (because that would be easy).

Both the phone and the charge cable are with me inside. I leave the office, plug the cable in to the car and the phone, and put the phone on the mount. It starts charging, and then a few second later is stops charging. And equal few second after that at it starts charging again; rinse and repeat.

It only happens in the afternoon, which leads me to think and agree that it is heat related. I just don't think it's heat related on the phone side. I'm going to try to remote start the car 5-10 minutes before I leave to cool it down before I get in, so we'll see what happens there.

My iphone does something similar too. In my case, it will either charge or not charge after plugging the phone in. If it happens to charge, it will usually stay charging - though it does sometimes stop charging.

If it is not charging or stop charging, usually unplugging and then plugging back in (sometime repeating a couple of times) fixes the problem.

I had assumed it was my cable - which is an aftermarket one.
