I'd love to know how the sensors can differentiate between a tree and a person standing still.

The Mustangs will still mow down the people standing on the side of the road at cars and coffee.

Right? Won't exactly help when they use the street curb to take flight.

Off button definitely required.

I have collision detection warning on my current ride but it does not engage the brakes. The visual warning is the first to engage, I pretty much ignore that since that pops in rush hour traffic, if the audible warning goes off, collision is imminent. It has saved me from having a close call or two, not annoying at all. If it can prevent one accident it is worth it.

It will be interesting to see how aggressive it applies the breaks and how it disengages if it were to engage.

Looking forward to my 2018 GT having this as an option.

If pedestrians want to feel safe they should stay off of the sidewalk!:ninja:

This isn't pedestrian protection, it's an enhancement for an edge in DEATHRACE! :headbang:

The cars are already safe now, it's the drivers that cause a problem. Especially the idiots you see on youtube leaving some event. They have to have turned all the safety features off to get the car so far out of shape.

I don't have a problem with a feature that will help me not hit someone that jumps in front of the car, though. I've had to stop for deer a few times on the roads around here and in low visibility sometimes it's difficult to see. Unfortunately age can be a factor, especially at night.. :( I think this feature would actually be really great, and I would not turn it off. I don't know why someone would turn this off. You actually want to hit people?

You couple this pedestrian feature with this existing feature:

Pedestrian Protection is the politically correct way of saying Heat Seaking Aiming System.

It is my Constitutional Right to mow over any pedestrian that gets in my way. If God wanted them on the road way at night, She would have given them armor plating.

Don't quote me on this but they probably scan more in the infrared region of the spectrum and distinguish people (or animals) from the background due to increased heat signature.
Personally I think the detection is nice but with the automatic braking it's Ford's way of making sure you can't run away from zombies during the apocalypse.

Oh look more safety equipment... I'm just going to place a bet that the s650 will be around the same weight if not more than the s550
