Hey everyone, recently my parking brake has been very loose and wont hold the vehicle at all even on a flat surface. I've looked online and I have adjusted the nut that's behind the resonator that fixed the loose brake handle but even with its pulled all the way up the car will still freely move if you just push it or if your on a slight hill. was seeing if anyone has had this problem and can help out TIA.

But are you getting any action at the brakes? You may want to put the car up and remove the wheels and have someone sit in the car and pull the lever and release a few times to ensure that the motion at the handle is being transmitted all the way to the brakes.

I think you've stretched the cable, and something is frozen at the caliper.

Or your brakes might be shot.

I have had the same issue for a while now. Tried all the suggestions involving adjusting the handle under the car and the bolt with the tension spring at the caliper. Initially I thought it was from my brake pads being low but changed them and same issue. I have not figured it out for sure, but my thought is that the calipers themselves are frozen. I am not sure how to fix this, but guessing it requires rebuilding the calipers or just replacing them. It's annoying, but I have just been living with it as is.

yeah I’ve kinda been living with it for a couple weeks now but I’d prefer to not leave it in gear all the time. I think I’ll just replace the calipers and see if that fixes it cause I’ve done everything that’s been suggested but nothing has worked.

Yeah I mean I always leave it in gear either way, safer that way and now I feel like I will never really trust a parking brake anymore lol. It's most annoying in those instances when you want to get out of your car to do something with it running but it's not possible. And yeah most likely replacing the calipers will do the trick.

I had the same problem on my 2017 at 41,000 miles. Dealer diagnosed the problem as both rear calipers frozen. The calipers were replaced (under my Ford extended warranty) and that fixed the problem. I originally thought the problem was due to a stretched cable because every time I pick up my car after service the guy who brings the car around pulls the parking brake handle up as far as it will go.

I had this exact issue on my mustang a couple years ago. Ended up being a bad rear caliper. After replacing the caliper everything worked perfectly.
