Ugh. Not sure when this happened, it happened within the past few days - but someone door dinged by my car. Which is crazy because I purposely don't park near people for that reason. Anyway. I was thinking about trying my hand at popping it out. The dent seems very straight. About an inch long, maybe 1/32" deep. Paint its self looks fine.

Currently looking for affordable DIY dent repair kits online.

Firstly, I was going to try boiling water to see if it will pop its self out. If that doesn't work - I am hoping hot glue with a dent puller / lifter will get it out.

What do you think? Chances of success? Any advice? I will post updates when I start working on it. Probably this coming weekend.

I’ve seen pdr folk use special rods they fit behind panels to bend stuff like that out. It looks like a hard spot to get so it might be worth having someone look at it in person as from your pic I can’t quite tell if it’s on the fender line or not.

Boiling water generally is more for plastics. You can still use the same theory with sheet metal, but I’ve only seen it done with a blow torch.

Take it to a PDR guy and let him fix it in about 20 mins... you ll never know it was there. I wouldn't t try a DIY. You ll be surprised how much of an art it is and I guarantee you ll over push it, ask me how I know. LOL

Agreed, PDR is definitely an art. Hard to do perfectly if you aren't skilled in PDR.

My experience: I got a small dent on the front of my hood from a flying rock. The PPF saved the paint, but I couldn't unsee the dent every time I looked at the car. A good body shop gave me the name of the PDR guy they use, and I asked him if it was fixable. He knew it was aluminum, and he was able to reach it with one of his many specialized tools through a hole in the hood framework. He worked the metal from above and below, with a special light suctioned onto the hood even though he was working in bright sunlight. PDR really is an art. 20 minutes or so and $100 later you'd never know there was a dent.

The first S550 I bought was a California big city car, little tiny dings everywhere (well, like 4 of them) but paint was undamaged and as soon as I brought it home had a local PDR guy work it. Cost me $200 I think, literally couldn't find where any of them were afterwards. Magic!

I have a long gouge in the front of my hood (argument with the garage door opening while on the jacks).

I went to the best PDR guy in town (for another dent) and he said that he couldn't do that area because the two layers come so close together.

Where exactly was your dent? Maybe put a piece of blue tape on your hood and post a photo.

I've had this done before and I agree with everyone who said to pay a pro. I've seen this done and it's as much art as it is science. A guy on a bike ran into my car and left a big dent. So much time, patience, the right tools...heck...I was so impressed that I tipped the guy. This dude made it look like nothing had ever happened. Took him hours to do this. You DON'T want to try this unless you're in the mood to learn a new career.
