What if I had the car wrapped, then decided to have stripes ( decals) installed? Would the stripes stick? Would a ceramic job interfere with adhesion of stripes?

Sounds easier to just sell the car....
But I'd suggest you ask the installer of your stripes before going on word of mouth here on this forum. Are you installing your own decals? Doing your own ceramic job ?

Can someone change the title to this post to “my car’s paint got messed up and I don’t know how or what caused it....maybe I have some culpability but don’t want to admit to that....what should I do next ....”
Instead of “paint not very durable”
I call foul
He's half right. The paint on these cars is not very durable. HOWEVER, I have washed my '17 multiple times after coating it and there are no new scratches. Perhaps one obscure one here and there, but basically none.

I'm willing to bet there's an issue with the OP's wash technique if he's noticing new scratching every time he washes the vehicle.

It's not recommended to install vinyl over a ceramic coated car. While it will adhere, it's much more likely to lift and peel if applied over a coated car.

You can put vinyl on a WRAPPED car with no issue - as long as the PPF isn't also coated.

Curious to know which marque’s paint tolerates rocks and what not better? And from what decade...if that matters or has some relevance.....
fords own super duty trucks have a lot thicker paint on them, a guy I work with has a vw with almost 400k on it and his facia has less chips than mine..the rest of the car doesn't, but the plastic parts do.. the newest model mustang that I've had that I recall not chipping much was my 04 and everything earlier than that held up MUCH better. my '10 was only slightly better. The rest of my 18 is still flawless and they've done a good job protecting the rockers and I have no chips behind the rear tires either..they just need to double the clearcoat and paint on the facia or make it durable, instead of making us spend hundreds to protect or correct their shitty workmanship

Oooh man, there are a lot of resources out there. I recommend hitting up autogeek.com where they have a lot of training videos. A lot of them are basic, but they will get you going. Just start reading and researching. It's not hard, but be careful. I've seen many DIYers do some pretty significant damage to their paint.
Thank you. I’ll check out autogeek.com then. Peace

People criticize those old bras constantly, how ugly they are, or how they scratch the paint, but NOTHING protects the front end better. None of my bras EVER scratched my paint, but the bra, and the car were always cleaned at the same time, weekly, or anytime after it got rained on. Sure, if you're a dumbass and just leave it on indefinitely, it'll do more damage than any stray rocks could do, but you sometimes have to be smarter than the product you're using.

I'm tempted to get one for my '18, but....it is a lot of maintenance compared to a clear bra.
I highly recommend getting one for highway driving. My last 2 cars were riddled with Rock chips from highway driving. Both were non metallic race Red.

I only use it for long highway driving and remove it after the trip so it doesn't stay on for long periods of time. I immediately wash the car after removal.

My paint is near flawless using this high quality Colgan bra.

I am starting to think that Ford has a higher quality Magnetic metallic paint job vs. other colors or metallic is just more durable in general. This is the nicest paint I have had on a car and I always get compliments on the paint.

I have to admit that I am surprised with the lack of durability of the clear coat and paint. Every time I wash my car, with clean microfiber cloths, bucket and water, I find a new scratch after I dry the car.

In addition, this morning, after washed and drove the car last night, I went out today and noticed that something whiteish had sprayed on the right side of my hood and roof. I didn’t notice it yesterday. I washed the car yesterday and drove around town and on the freeway. So someone had something spraying out.

The result, after I washed the spray off, is the edges of the spots etched in my paint. When the sun hits the hood just right, the spray pattern is fully visible.

I really question the durability of modern paint. Paint from cars even a generation ago was way more durable.

Do any of you know a safe rubbing compound or other polish that might get watermark like spots out?

With the paint and clearcoat as thin as it is, i’m hesitant to just try any old polish I find at autozone.

Thanks,
Look at the bright side. Since the paint scratches easily as it is, might as well not waste your time and run it through the car wash!
