Not keen on the wrap. Comp. Orange also discontinued, hope that I'll still get it this year, hope they don't advise me that I need to change it :/

The wrap kills the curves of the car in my opinion. I love how all DPs got their cars first, which' wasn't going to happen.'
OH, how this statement above kills me ! Sales manager conversation when ordering my car - You guys are taking the plunge on buying a car sight unseen (in person) let alone driving it "so as a huge thanks from Ford Australia you will get your cars before any dealer/demo cars and you will have the first ones on the road". Well guess what, EVERY dealer seems to have multiple cars and mine isnt even built yet ? Maybe if there is a shortage on GT exhaust manifolds Ford Australia could have put dealers cars behind early ordering real customer cars. But hey, why would I have wanted a convertible for summer, everyone knows winter top down driving is where it at.... :frusty:

Ingot Silver entering Gold Coast Airport at around 7:30 a.m.

This colour almost makes the S550 look Aston Martin-ish. Looks great.

Gold Coast is a bad place to be if you are waiting for your car. I have seen 1 X Race Red GT (twice), 1 X Black GT, 1 X Black EB 'vert, and now 1 X Ingot Silver (not sure if GT or EB). So that's 4 cars in a little over a week.
Glad to hear you say that MC. I ordered an Ingot Silver convertible with the nickel wheels thinking the same about it being the poor man's Aston. So glad to hear that the colour suits S550 as with lots of peoples comments on the forum you always seems to second guess your choice when you buy a car sight unseen (in person).

I'm definitely second guessing myself after seeing the Ingot Silver. I'm not sure I'm 100% happy with choosing Race Red to be frank. Thinking the more 'stylish' colours, whatever I mean by that, work better.

The Aston Martin vibe goes as soon as you get a look at the rear and look back at the rest of the car as it moves forward. Modern Aston Martins have a more slinky, feminine form, albeit feminine with all the right bits in all the right places. The S550 looks a bit more butch, and a bit more bootylicious (I still think it might have done a few too many squats at some point - I get the impression that it was designed along the classic US 'two golf bags' in the boot dictate). Mixing a lot of metaphors today ... We humans want to anthropomorphize everything ...

In a way, buying a car like this is like an automotive version of internet dating. You kind of have an idea of what the car might look like, but you're not quite sure about how you're going to feel about it in the flesh.

Not sure if you've owned a convertible before, but a lot of summer is the hardest time to own one - try sitting in traffic with the top down on a 35+ degree day!

Every part of your body feels like its burning, so you put the top up. It's black, so it absorbs every little bit of heat from the sun and transmits it straight to the top of your head.

Late summer, autumn (apart from the rain) and winter are the best times in AU for a 'vert, hands down... at least in Sydney.

In fact, I broke out my little Z3 for a drive today - perfect weather for it.

No ssb, never had a convertible before. I am thinking more the summer night cruises rather than the SA 40+ degree days. These sorts of tips is what makes me wonder whether I will be able to live with a vert as a daily. The cooled seats better work well I say..haha

Agreed - summer nights with cooled seats in a 'vert should be awesome :)

I've got a photo somewhere of the outside temperature gauge in our 'vert reading 38 degrees at about 8-9pm one night. Too horrible to stay home, but nice for a drive... anyway, I kinda digress...

Having used a 'vert for a DD for a good few years, if you're going to work and spending the hottest part of the day indoors anyway, it'll be fine... it's those occasional days when you're driving around lunch time in full sun that its a killer; and there's almost none of those outside summer.

Point is - get a vert, drive it daily with the top down unless its raining or 40 degrees! Enjoy life :)

(oh yeah, and make sure you invest in some hats and sunglasses ;)

I was driving through Death Valley towards Vegas a couple of years ago in the stinking heat.

Got overtaken by a group of very fair skinned female tourists in a Camaro convertible with the top down. I'm sure that didn't end well.

We actually had a tube of sunscreen in the glovebox for a long time, in case we got caught :)

... it doesn't have to be dangerous.

Getting quite OT now. I still haven't seen a single Mustang in the wild (in AU), other than Gnome's and Race Red GT's in a car park! Yet to see Comp.Orange in the flesh anywhere though... wondering if that mythical beast actually exists?!

I couldn't own a 'vert, or at least use it as a DD. I am really heat sensitive and sweat ridiculously easily - even though I'm pretty fit. I blame my Irish heritage. I should be back in the bogs.

Happy to see everyone else's on the road though!

English/Scottish heritage - I burn in the sun after 5 minutes and sweat if I walk 10 metres in anything over about 20 degrees - never regretted owning a 'vert.

Historically, I've been sunburnt more in sedans - usually on the arms - than in 'verts.

No excuses!

Was in Sydney last weekend driving my 1 week old Shadow Black EcoBoost Mustang around Parramatta, North Sydney and back home via Sydney - Newcastle Motorway and then onto the New England Highway. Only Mustang I saw on the entire trip was a circa 1970 Mustang at Toongabbie.

I've used one as a DD since 2002 and have the top down regularly (basically any day over 20C with the sun out). Once the weekend hits and I can swap the business suit for the singlet and shorts I have a distinct toffee apple appearance!

I do have to take more care nowadays due to the bonce being a far thinner mat of hair than it was back in 2002.
