Sorry in advance if this was already a topic. I've tried searching but haven't find definitive answer.

What is the factory thickness of paint on s550? More specifically on oxford white.
I did some detailing on my car and detailer said that readings are around 225 µm on average, which seems a bit high. Car has 35k kilometers. I'm the second owner, checked everything through Ford officials before buying and car was as clean as they come.
Read somewhere that it is possible that they factory repainted the car for some reason and that's why it's thicker

Most numbers I’ve seen is around 100-150 microns depending on the panel of the car you’re checking. If there were paint defects noticed prior to delivery, those panels would be resprayed (not sure if the whole would be at that point but I doubt it).

Are you the only owner of the car? If not, was the car previously in an accident?

2nd owner. Bought it at 31k kilometers now at 35k. Ran the VIN number through official Ford dealership, through Car vertical. My father is a mechanic and he checked it before buying. As I've said it was basically spotless, 2 or 3 rock chirps. It's weird that it's 225 all around the car. I mean if someone did paint the whole car he did hell of a job lol

Check the door sills where they would be less likely to paint and under the hood where there is no clear to double check your measurements.

I don't have an answer to your question but my question is what is your concern? You said the car looks great, I'm guessing it's just curiosity? Mine is the same color, never even thought to check the paint depths.

The average is basically meaningless in this case. Was one panel reading much higher than the rest?

It's just curiosity. I'm not worried. Wanted to inform myself and learn a bit in the process.
Readings on door sills are in 120s.
And none of the panels were much higher/lower they're all in the 215 to 240 range approximately.
The car wasn't in any crash so it's weird that someone would paint it fully if that's the case. And even if they did it's a hell of a job lol

On my car it averaged between 115-140, depending what area of what panel. I found the thinnest around the edges of the hood (2" from the edges) and the central areas about 134.

What paint depth gauge do you have? I am thinking about buying the Griot's Garage one.
