Gave my dealer list of options I wanted and asked them to start processing the order....have had two conversations now and they seem reluctant to order.

Got email today from them that Ford has suspended ordering for now until Sept. 11th due to parts?

Anyone else heard this?

In your best impersonation of Dave Chappelle's impersonation of George Bush, walk up to the dealer and say:

"why you gotta be like that? I thought you was my black brotha..."

Works every time 20% of the time.

As far as I can tell and according to my dealer orders can still be placed. Ford has suspended scheduling until September 11. They have already scheduled over 11,000 orders so far. The early ones (around 400) are destined for Ford executives, media testing, demos, etc. The remainder are headed for dealer allocations (i.e. lot cars).

They have not announced the reason for the pause in scheduling - could be parts shortages, alleviation of any identified production issues in the early vehicles, or just a policy of scheduling in batches based on production capability. The Fusion is built in Flat Rock too and production requirements for it can affect the rate of Mustang production.

The okay to order date is reported to be September 9. This is when custom orders are eligible to be scheduled. Ford schedules on Thursdays, hence the September 11 date. Note there are many custom orders already in the system waiting for scheduling and the custom orders will be mixed with more dealer allocations.

Thanks for the clarification - however, I see no benefit in my dealer's suggestion to wait until Sept to order....won't I be that much further behind everyone else?

I would agree with that statement. Ordering and scheduling are 2 separate things. Of course depending how Ford schedules it might not make a bit of difference if you ordered now or if you ordered on Sept. 9th. It seems to be a crapshoot on what Ford picks when scheduling. A lot of factors are involved.

I'd say get your order in and keep your fingers crossed. :)

It's complicated, and I don't know the whole method to how things are scheduled, but I do know that the date of order is only one very small part of determining who gets their car first.

The first step (or at least more important than order date) is for the dealership to get an allocation for their region. When they get that allocation, it pulls from all orders on the waiting list for that dealer based on order type (stock or customer) ,priority, and parts availability (probably other things). So generally, the dealer would put the first order in with a higher priority than the next person in line to make sure they come in the order relative to others at the same dealership.

However, based on previous sales figures, one dealer may get 10 allocations per another dealer's 1. As someone recently pointed out, it's not as easy as going to the largest dealer in the hopes of them getting more allocations. Sometimes a smaller dealer sells more Mustangs than another, so it's not always easy to tell.

That said, I'd definitely want to make sure my order was in before the 11th, because if the order isn't in the system, it's not going to be picked regardless. But I'm not sure it's of any benefit to get it in today vs Sept. 10th. Although if the dealer gets others ordering and puts them in front of you, that would suck.

It could be in your interest though (pardon the pun) to wait, since if he requires a deposit, that's money you could keep in your pocket until later and possibly do something useful with.

Thanks everyone for the info.....went to another dealer today, everything was explained and order complete in 10-15 minutes. Don't understand what was going on at the original dealer I visited, but that's not my problem.

Guess I'd better settle in and be patient - this may take awhile...

My dealer told me ordering was suspended about 3 weeks ago and he gave me the same exact date you got. Luckily I ordered in July.

I ordered mine from Walker. I probably should have ordered from Brandon Ford because they always are allocated more vehicles. I'm fine with Job 2 though and hope the bugs are worked out by then.

As mentioned in several posts above, your dealer is confused. Ordering (dealer function) is not suspended, but scheduling (Ford function) is.

I ordered on Saturday August 30 with no issues. Got the DORA from Ford on Monday and tracking is in ordering processing on the website.
