Definitely needs pics. It seems you might be a bit in the dark with what you have (through no fault of your own) so pics of the speakers, trunk, and any odd wiring you see that isn’t hidden by trim panels would help a lot.

Can someone identify the bits here other than the speakers haha from what has been said the black box is something to do with the antenna? What are the other two?

Can't quite make out the numbers on the stickers, but you could try searching on them to get the part descriptions.

The skinny silver/white part is the trunk light. It rattles like crazy so I’d recommend popping it out and then using fabric tape around the hole to tighten the fit and silence it. Those speakers are stock and it doesn’t look like anything has been done to them.

I guess I'll have to take it to a specialist to fault find. I can't find any break in the wiring, if someone messed with it they did a fine job to hide what they did and the speaker still works ok when you swap the wires over. Any audio companies anyone trusts around Cleveland Ohio. all the ones I've looked at seem kinda sketchy.. might just live with one rear speaker before I hand my keys over to a bunch of cowboys.

Do you have the 4" or 8" screen in the dash? If you have the larger screen, there will be an external amplifier just above the drivers kick panel. Check the wiring there for any monkey business.

I don't see anything in the photo to indicate after-market modifications. The speaker connects look to be the OEM connectors that they re-used so I don't suspect any wire splicing above the rear deck.

However, assuming you have other after-market parts like an amplifier in the trunk, then it's likely they spliced into the speaker wire inside the trunk to create a high input signal. You may want to follow the wire inside the trunk to see if there are any splices off of it, if that splice is shorting on some metal, etc.

The speakers wires should run up to the front left side of the car to an amp that is above the driver's left foot well. There's nothing fancy going on other than the rear input wire running into that amp via an OEM plug, then leaving the amp and going along the door sill plates to the rear.

Having replaced all the speakers in my car, I would say it's not likely the wire got pinched on some random metal piece somewhere. The wires are wrapped and insulated fairly well.

I would check the connector to the speaker for any issues and look inside the trunk for any splices for high input leads to an amplifier.

Do you have photos from inside the trunk looking up?

The black box -- as I recall -- is related to the ANC (active noise cancelling). Again, working from memory, but I'm pretty sure it's the microphone.

I do not think it's is related to your issue.

** Edit: A later reply says this is related to the anti-theft system.

no splicing I can see anywhere, the wiring all looks stock. it has the 8" display so I'll look for the factory amp and see if the previous owner just stole a feed at that point to run something. There is no AMP anywhere but there was some wiring direct from the battery that I removed. but I couldn't work out where it tapped into any kind of signal.

GT's do not have active noise cancellation. That black box is the RTM and is part of the PATS system. I mistakenly called it a radio antenna but the antenna is actually on the rear window.

Just for reference, if you have one the ANC mic is in the headliner above the rear seat. You’ll notice it right away if there’s a small round plastic speaker grill looking thing in the middle of the headliner just forward of the rear glass.

Most installs tap the rear speaker for a high input, or they take low input from the head unit where it meets the amp. The amp is up above the driver foot well and looks something the attached photo.

Not sure if it's helpful, but here's a wiring guide I used when doing my stereo.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'll look for the factory amp and see if I can find anything missing.

All info is great. I have no background on the car, it was sold to me as a GT premium but I have no owners manual and the guy at ford didn't realize it had the active exhaust and it was 2 quarts low on oil after it's service so I'm not sure how much they know about the cars! Lots to learn
